OUCH Bryan,
Sorry to hear about your blow up. I 've been there and done that with a 96 4V Cobra with a KeeneBell on 9 lbs of boost. Ran 6 lbs for 2 years and 2 weeks on 9 lbs. What octane fuel where you running?? My bet is when you tear in down it will be the HYPERPATHETIC pistons that let you down. I shattered 5 in my engine. In my case I should have been running better than 94 octane fuel. It started to detonate at WOT. I coast across the 1320 mark at 114 mph with engine locked up. I know SHM is expensive but I think his builds one of the best. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I dont feel so bad 70MACH1OWNER. I guess I could have stayed at 6# - but that is not my style. I will be happy now to build up the lower end, lower the compression and boost the heck out of it.

As far as I am concerned - the guys that know me here know that this is just a stepping stone. I wanted to see what a "average joe" could do and get away with. 9# is not it So, you guys / gals out there, just be careful.

As soon as I break into the block, I will let everyone know the gorry details

You have the right attitude Bryan!!! Are you married. After 5 years mine still reminds me of that 12 seconds that cost 6 grand. She still doesn't understand my love for cars even after 30 years of marriage.

And she's only "not so happy". My wife would have branded me "useless" for the rest of my life if I did that. Even if it was my car.

Sorry to hear. But you have your thinking right. As long as this didn't burden your family and lifestyle, "charge it to the game!"

Good luck Bryan!

Any feedback on VT Engine ?

Bryan,
Met a guy at the track earlier this year that had a VT short block in his mustang (4.6 mod motor, not an 05) and he lost a rod bearing that night. Motor was about 2 months old.

They did end up making things right for him however.

Bryan...I'm in the same boat as far as the wifey part and the car. I've looked into alot of builders and I've heard the best are Modular Performance and Boss 330. I'm going with Al Pappito-Boss 330, which is local to me. He's super knowledgeable and a really nice guy. I hear that MP and Boss 330 both charge normal shop time as opposed to steep prices due to their skills. I'm going to a Windsor Iron block. The only difference as someone mentioned above is that the 2 lower bolts on the timing chain cover are a larger diameter on the windsor block and need to be made larger on the cover. No big deal. Al is also using my original motion plates, boring and welding the hole closed where the linkage goes thru for the blades. He has a lot of insight on these motors with some of his contacts. I took him my heads and all the parts off the block and he's returning to me an assembled longblock. He currently has another 05 alum. block on a stand that's getting some Novi 2000 put to it. I'm not sure exactly what that is, but I do know it's a larger supercharger. Anyways, here's a link to his website-that is still under construction. http://www.boss330racing.com/

I know there will be some that will be offended by this, but regardless of your opinions, these are mine...In my search for a builder I've learned to stay away from D.S.S, SHM, Livernois, CHP, and one other in Mississippi, but can't recall their name. Also, Sutton has their motors built by a guy in Tampa, FL.

Here's a current decent thread going on....kinda a peeing match though

Can't go wrong going local with someone you feel comfortable with

In the end I take most online advice with a grain of salt, and go with my gut.

Sorry to here about you pain......
I have a SC 2005 mustang gt. I am running 7 psi,14 degrees of timming, and A/F is about the same. I was wondering how you got 462? I am putting down 383. I currently have Bassani xpipe,C&l intake, 39#injectors.
I am about to install
1)mafia
2)fuel pump(BAP)
3)10 or 12 psi pully
and i guess because of this
4)90MAF
5)manley H beam rods
6)Forged alum. pistons and rings
7)ARP Mainstuds
8)Forged Crank

Excuse my ignorance but could it of been that he didn't did have enough fuel? (fuel pump)

Once again sorry to here about that...i dont think i could take it as well as you

I heard that you can't install mafia in a Mustang. But it feels right at home in a Lincoln Town Car.

I was not preparred for the probelms after 2 runs. I did expect it to blow soon (as in a few months) so I was ready to get the new short block. However, the wait for someone to trailer it hope was SO long. Oh and pushing it 1/4 down the return lanes and 1/4 mile to the front gate just about killed me.

Luckily, swingle007 and a friend of mine helped out. Oh and if the guys in the imports and the mustang from houston-mustangs.com read this - thanks for help pushing it onto the trailer.

-Bryan

Your a champ in my book... This is a tough pill in which to swallow, but dignity is something that you definatley have comprised as part of your character.. May I make a suggestion for you?

Purchase this motor, and install your SC and all related parts.. Go back to the track with 15PSI, and show us some true Mustang Pride!!

Here is another good place to look..

Boy that 5.2 Liter Cobra motor sure looks good.. Not too sure what your budget is.. I wouldnt spend too much though..

http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/gt-cob...ongblocks.shtml

Look on this link directly..

http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/gt-cob...ortblocks.shtml

Cobra 5.2 Liter Shortblock
Part No. 82500
$5995.00*
Another SHM first! Pioneered for road racing in the Grand Am Cup Series in 2001, against Vipers and Corvettes. This shortblock combines the oversize bore of the 5 liter, with the stroker crankshaft to end up with 322 cubic inches of raw power. Of course this package includes a forged steel crankshaft, forged Manley rods and pistons, along with SHM billet oil pump gears and ARP studs.

I am using the ProCharger Intercooled kit with the 9-10# pulley, 30# injectors, the FlowCharger (aka BAP) and the MAF.ia. I have the basic infrastructure to make the power. However, my tuner, is so well versed in tuning the 05's along with the supercharger modular engine, that we pulls the power out the engine To tell you the truth, I would be lying if I tried to break it down for you. I let him (my tuner) do his job and I just grin

Just remember, it is all about the tuner.

Bryan,
Sorry to hear about the car. And I know the feeling of waiting for a tow truck at the track. Been there, done that.
On the brighter side, I am impressed that the auto trans held up to the power of the SC. It must be stronger than what I thought it was.
