Alright I have a question because Ive been thinking about getting a Programmer for a while, from what I hear the C&L specific predator isnt that great because you cant add more tunes to the programmer, (is this true ) and if it is true, does that make the predator that comes with the K&N better since it is not K&N specific? I ask because I plan to add an H or X pipe down the line and will probably need another tune for that and all this programming stuff is getting me confused.. :bang:

Not true, you can indeed add more tunes to the predator that comes with the C&L

I called Diablosport just now, and asked about the K&N

First-

Diablosport is currently doing testing, and expects to have a SPECIFIC K&N tune out very soon.

Secondly...and this is something new to me-

To check whether your car is running Lean or Rich...do the following-

Hook up the predator, and start the real time data logging. Drive the car at 60mph in 5th gear (or OD) for 1 or 2 miles. Go under "Gas Driveability" in the predator. If you get a "+" percentage it is running TOO LEAN. If you get a "-" percentage, it is running TOO RICH.

If everyone knew this already, then go ahead and start the stoning.

But I thought this was cool.

Hi everybody!

I’m guessing the percentages are the

LONFFT1
LONGFT2
SHRTFT1
SHRTFT2

If so, I’m hovering around 0 +/- 2% at times, mostly – (minus) when I let off the throttle.

87 octane tune. Dumping it to a spreadsheet these values are around 1 most of the time; and from my crappy recollection of percentages this is good (?) the ‘0’ I’m seeing.

BUT – here's a thought – under the Gas Drivability, there’s IAT – Intake Air Temp – which, If I’m understanding this correctly would give us some truth to the CAI that are being used here?

I don’t have a CAI, and with the current air temp at 76 degrees, at 60/65 mph my IAT reading was 80 degrees. Sitting at a stoplight it bumped up to about 100 degrees.

Could I assume that the CAI would – at speed – drop the air temp below 80 degrees?

Thanks!

In followup and as a general FYI: Got an email from Diablo today regarding a Predator tune for the K&N. They are still in "R&D" mode and do not have an estimated ETA as of now.

I wonder why it's taking them so much longer to get a K&N tune... You'd think that most CAI systems run about the same amount of air.

Adjusting my C&L tune with my predator was easy, but to really know how much to adjust it you should go on a dyno. I did, and after adjustment, gained another 5 hp.

My adjustments with my mods are 4 full points to the rich at WOT in both power bands. I could have taken it another point, but ran out of money! (to dyno)

I also adjust the timing depending on the fuel octane that I use. This is an easy device, the predator, but can be scary for the novice.

I have downloaded all of the revisions as well, with no problem.

when you download the newer version and install it, does the original tune backup gets erased from the Predator?

The predator must first have the factory backup tune reinstalled. Then you use the diablo downloader tool and update the predator with the new revision. Any old tune on the predator is lost, unless it was a custom tune.

I saved all of my revisions to CDRs to help preserve them if I want to go backwardse for some reason.

Just an FYI, I sent an email to Diablo today and got the same standard response. This is getting rediculous. Maybe if we all keep harassing them, they will come out with it?

This is a reply to your question from 2005-11-21 13:20

$350 for a custom tune here in Maryland. That's the over the phone quote from Amazon Racing...I passed on it.
i wouldn't pay $350 for a tune unless chris johnson from sct was doing it.or someone equal from diablo sport did it

If you get a "+" percentage it is running TOO LEAN. If you get a "-" percentage, it is running TOO RICH.
You do realize that the ONLY thing the stock computer CAN know related to rich/lean is if you are richer than stociometric or leaner than stociometer. It has NO clue to HOW lean or HOW rich you are.

I have a feeling you are going to find that this +/- thing is just showing you how much fuel the computer is adding during steady state (closed loop) to get the car cycling around stociometric. While that might give you some kind of idea what is going on, it doesn't necessarily tell you anything about WOT when you want your A/F to be down in the 12.5-13.5:1 range (vs: 14.7 closed loop part throttle). If you want to assume that the increase in air flow is linear AND that your stock tune did not require any fine tuning by the CPU (right...), then I guess you could use this to ball park the enrichenment needed to compensate for the increased air flow at WOT.

That still should be first pass before putting a wideband O2 sensor in and MEASURING the A/F.
