I would like to go with a synthetic tranny fluid, I did do a search and did not find much. One guy said he did some research and even called Mobil and that they said it was a NO for the ford tranny, then I read a thread where a member went with Mobil 1 full synthetic ( mercon compadible) ATF.
OK, so I am confused now , anybody got some constructive input to this thread????????????

Hit the "NEO" oil web site. They use to sell a 7wt (which I still have & use) They may have a new name for it. Worked great in my GT-1 SCCA car & circle track car. 650HP+

Been using Royal Purple synthetic ATF for 6000 plus miles without any problems. Can't see how it would be anything but good.

x2 on the Royal Purple synthetic ATF but I added 1 bottle of ford friction modifier for positrac rear ends. Shifts like glass at all engine rpm, 3500+ miles on the oil change.

David, that was me that called Mobil about the Synthetic trans fluid. BUT the topic was about an automatic tranny. We autos may only use MERCON V ATF. The synthetic Mobil 1 ATF is good for MERCON rating that meets the spec for the manual trans.

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic ATF is Mercon compatible. I've been running it for the last 13k miles in my manual tranny with no problems.

Is there an advantage to running full synthetic in the tranny? I mean, I realize it'd probably last longer, lubricate better, etc., but does it make it quieter or increase power a bit?

It may make it a little louder. But it will run cooler use less power and last longer. It has been my experience that some times it makes it harder to shift at high rpms. I believe this is because synchronizers are also lubracated better so it takes more pressure on the shifter and takes more time for the gears to mesh.
