Does anyone have an update as to the release date for the BBK throttle body and CAI combo? Last thing I heard was that they were shooting for a December 2005 release date. There is still nothing on the BBK website about this, and I've seen no further updates here. Does anyone know what the story as to when this setup is going to be released?

It has already been tested I thought and the dyno showed no gains

I'm wondering who will buy this anyway, with the bad results of the other TB's sofar. I would really like to see how MM&FF got 15hp out of the throttlebody.

Me three.

Magazines should have a disclaimer,

Warning: Dyno results may be directly proportional to manufacturer's advertising contributions.

I have a CL CAI already...can I upgrade my throttle body with this system? Also will yield any gains?

That's what everyone wants to know Nick. MM&FF dyno tested a *caugh* prototype BBK 62mm TB that produced BIG results. It was almost 30hp with the BBK CAI and over 30 lb-ft of torque. They also tested just the TB and just the CAI as well as stock, so the DATA looks good.

Things get REAL strange when you look at the dyno results of all the other TB that ARE available to mear mortals. They are not producing any real increase to speak off. Other than better throttle response! But here is BBK with their prototype TB that can make up to 30hp with a CAI... Strange...

And it gets even stranger. Three months ago BBK could drop a prototype TB in MM&FF hands, but 1/4 of a year later, they STILL can't produce the part for sale. Strange... Kind of makes me think the dyno numbers are BS and they know it. And they know if they DO release it as is right now, there is no way in HECK that it will make the numbers that were published. So I think they are either trying to refine it so it CAN make real hp, or they are waiting until people forget all about the MM&FF article!

Time will tell. And I would not be surprized if the BBK TB just accidentially "goes away" completely at some point in the future. You can't be accused of BS if you never let the product get tested outside of your controls.

I think the only time any real gains were produced from an aftermarket throttle body was when the throttle body was used on a completely stock setup only....no CAI or any other add on.
Of course you probably would have to retune for the actual gains to show up, so your back to square one....are the gains from the new throttle body or from the new tune.

Which makes me wonder if anyone ever took a stock setup with the factory tune, and then custom tuned the stock parts to max. performance, and then added aftermarket H.P. gainers and they still performed as advertised, with some tune tweeks??

I think the base should always be the tune for your car, even starting at stock. Once the tune is maximized to match your vehicle, then add ons can be tested for gains vs. the cost of the add on. Factor out what exactly is giving you the extra H.P. and then ask yourself is the fancy parts worth it.

If I could do it all over again I would of went this route...

Buy an Xcal2 and take the stock car in for a dyno run using the Xcal2 to record my factory tune along with any new tweeked tune that the dyno reveals. Have the car set up for max. performance with just the stock parts.

After that I would then add on the 'power adders' and see if they do indeed add the advertised H.P. via another dyno run with tweeks.

After that it's up to personal decision if the part is worth the money or not.
