Steeda upgraded heat exchanger

so steeda is selling a heat exchanger for supercharged mustangs for $449.00
http://www.steeda.com/products/steed..._exchanger.php

and an E-bay store is selling this for $150.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Heat-...spagenameZWDVW

same dimensions, same inlet and outlet size, only this one has a radiator style cap.

any thoughts on why not to buy the reasonably priced one besides name brand?

Hey Fabre,
The price on the Ebay exchanger seems to be a great deal. There really isn't any great deals. Who you gonn'a call if it doesn't work correctly?? I'd go with the Steeda unit. Just my thoughts.

Too cheap? you might be right but my obx headers were "too cheap" and made in china too. they were just as good as any i have seen on this board. I saw the stock heat exhanger for the gt500 and the magnacharger and THOSE were cheap.

Correct me if I am wrong but heat exchanger technology aint exactly rocket science is it?

good luck with that. What if it leaks? Does it have the right brackets to fit in a S197 bumper? You should just buy the AFCO GT500 heat exchanger. I just put one in yesterday. It was 399 from Lethal performance and it is a double pass exchanger with more cooling surface than Steeda or Gord Ford.

that thing looks awsome. Once my blower is installed I'll deff be looking around for bigger heat exchangers.

The intercooler coolant temps seem much lower right away. I will know if I gained anything performance-wise when I run at the track next Sunday as I have noty changed anything else but this and the intercooler pump and tank.

how many degrees lower are the coolant temps? I would think that if the coolant temps are lower the effect on air charge temp would reflect that and you would be making more power. The thing I am mostly concerned with is heat soak. I live in arizona and out air is hot and thin (3200 ft in altitude, and it getrs to 115+ during the summer) so heat soak is a major concern. I will not be at the track all the time hot lapping, but i go occasionally. It would be interesting to see not only what the coolant temps look like, but what the heat cycle ranges are, and how long the heat spikes last especially for a track application.

I can't tell you how much the upgraded cooler lowered my IAT, but I can say that since I've had it installed and including my trip to the track yesterday, that my IAT temps are typically 10 to 20 degrees higher than the ambient underhood temps. I have Aeroforce guages and have been watching both temps (ambient and IAT) and the 10-20 degrees is normal in my situation. This is running ~11psi with a Saleen twinscrew.

Isn't intake air temp measured at the mass air sensor? Is there an air charge temp sensor that can be logged and measured?

The Saleen reroutes the IAT sensor and wiring into one of the intake runners, after the blower and directy before the cylinder head. So, using the Aeroforce guages, I can monitor ambient temperature and also TRUE, intake charge temps after the intercooler/blower.
