Smoke from the Tranny
Hey all. Took the mustang in to Ford dealer the other day to have transmission fluid flushed because I now put 100 miles on the car a day. They said their flusher machine was broken so they went ahead and changed the filter and refilled the tranny manually.
IMPORTANT PART> after I drive the car for extended periods of time it begins to lightly smoke and smell strange from the tranny area. car is an auto. i have not been too hard on it and certainly not hard on it recently.
car has thrown no codes and performance/fuel mileage has not suffered.
me thinks this has something to do with either too much or too little fluid.
if you are an expert or someone even slightly less inept than myself, please chime in
i have not yet reached full panic mode yet but i'm getting there. car has run flawlessly since bought in '05.
thanks, Ben

I think they may have put to much tranny fluid in. I had this happen once when I worked for a Ford dealer and went to pick up an F-250 from out of state. Turns out there was a TSB for the tranny being overfilled. The truck was in PA and it was in a very hilly section of the state. everytime I went up the hill it smoked like crazy! turns out the over flow valve was right next to the exhaust and everytime it squirted out the tranny fluid, it splashed all ove the exhaust!

Either they put to much fluid in it or they didnt tighten the fill/drain plug good enough and it's leaking on the exhaust. How much have you drove it since you picked it up? May just be a little mess they left behind and its burning away.
Take a peak underneath and see if you see any leaks.
