I had a 1990 GT with 3:73's and a 5 speed manual. I could downshift that thing and just break the backend loose all over the place. Fast corners were a bit treacherous if I wasn't careful, but what alot of fun when noone was around.

I've been missing that same feeling with my 05GT (YES, I have turned the T/C off). I was told to get a tune and it would be night and day, well I installed the DiabloSport Predator 91 octane tune, but have no CAI, mufflers, etc. I still am not able to just rip this car all over the place. It's great in a straight line, but no sliding the rear end around corners whenever I feel like it.

Not that there's anything wrong with actually being able to keep the car planted on the pavement, but I like to have some intentional fun every now and again.

My next mods are 4:10's and a dyno tune. I'm not real big on getting a CAI as it is 5 million degrees here in Phoenix and I'm a bit worried about the underhood air temperature. Plus, I'm not sure that adding a CAI on top of the tune and 4:10's could really give me that much more of a difference. Maybe I'm wrong?

At any rate, why can't I rip the snot out of this car and get it sliding sideways whenever I feel like it? It can't be the driving, I would have to think that I can drive better than when I was 22. Good Lord I was a dangerous driver back then!

Thanks,

Sean

A couple of reasons, big one is the 05 chassis is light years ahead of the old fox body platform and it puts the power down more efficiently. The other reason is the difference in the torque characterisitics of the old 5.0L's and the new mod motors. The 5.0L's have more grunt down low in the rpm range vs the mod motors. Your 4:10 gears will make the car feel a lot more responsive.

As far as the CAI goes, it will make a big difference. A tune alone gives you about 10-15 rwhp, a CAI combined with a tune like C&L's package can give you 20-25 rwhp. Combine the CAI/tune package with the 4:10's and it will be like night and day compared to the stock car.

I have had no problem scaring the living poop out of myself a few times while taking left turns through intersections. Before and after my C&L and tune. I can only imagine what an intake, tune, AND gears would feel like.

(I dont want to, no, I want to, but I can't spend the money to find out)

I have had no problem cracking the **** end loose through corners.
I fugured this out about the third day I had it.
I was amazed at how well this car recovers and launches out of cornering.
I just drop her into 2nd and WOT it right after I go into the turn.

I'm with Mike, I havne't had any problem breaking the back end loose around turns. I don't do it too hard, but enough to know that its loose. I think that if I wanted to, I could do it harder, but I haven't really wanted to "push" it too hard. I follow Mike's steps above and it works for me, bone stock. In fact, I can get a little breakage with TC on. Maybe you're looking for something a little more loose that what I've been doing.

Prior platforms are MUCH more likely to break lose than this one. Every one of my previous Mustangs needed to be treated with kit gloves especially while corning. This thing totally plants and goes. It's a refreshing change, but yes, that fish-tailing was fun from time to time.

I took Sara out to play in a big, empty parking lot Monday AM. With the 285s on the back, hanging her tail out was a lot of fun. Very predictable and controlable, with no sudden moves. A GREAT car!

Wait until it rains

Seriously though, imgaine trying to do that in a '97 GT with 2.75 gears? Yeah, didn't happen. Now my old '90 Cougar XR-7 was a different story

Wait until it rains

YES - after it had rained, I pulled out of a supermarket on to the main road - three lanes, 90 degree turn, APPLIED gas - didn't romp on it.

Alluva sudden, the nose is pointed about 35 degrees off to the right of the roads centerline... I'm like... hmmm.... that's special......
Cut the wheel ease off the gas a tad and she snapped back to center....

Duke's A' Hazzard baby.......

Yeap, just like most here, not sure why you are having a problem doing that, as I can take it sideways through corners at will. It is that much more scary when it rains cause it becomes REAL easy to do. And BTW, I have rarely taken my traction control off, and can do all of this with it on just fine. Stock GT.

Speaking of when it rains, I was merging onto the highway today, the roads were soaked. I gave it a tiny bit of gas in second gear it broke loose with ease. Ooops

When I cut a turn out into traffic from a dead stop I gun it and cut the wheel sharply and it slides around and points me in the right direction with ease. Looks real cool too!

Its probably the tires being new and all, give it time they will start to break loose more often..

Having owned an 89 5.0L coupe with 3.73s, I can attest that even the lightest throttle input could have the car slewing sideways at will. Yes, they are a ton of fun until you actually need to hook it up. The 2005 feels way different and I'm guessing that the weight of the beast has something to do with it. My LX was around 3000lbs whereas the 05 GT is a porky 3500lbs.

The longer wheelbase contributes to the new car's stability as well as we all know that a car with a short wheelbase can be made to swap ends much easier.

Best solution? Buy another Fox 5.0 and use it for fun! They're so cheap these days that the whole car would probably be cheaper than a new pair of rear tires for the 05!

I decided to try something out last night...damp roads, turned off TCS, and made a turn while applying the gas. Ended up almost perpendicular with the center line before snapping it back.

Kinda scary at the time, but I was seriously giggling the entire way home.

Well I would have thought that too, but I let it rip around a corner stock, and it let loose all right. All over, had to bring it back in the reigns. Yah I did a little break torque to rev it up, and whipped it around , no problem, and this is an automatic. So with some mods, Oh I am sure no problems, breaking free, but I dont really want to do that too much, was actually pretty wacky, it was all over.
