I just got my JLT II and X-Cal 2 tuner from Doug and promptly installed it with 93 Performance Tune. Great guy and quality service, btw. It runs great and I definitely feel the new found power. However, I got the dreaded CEL with P0171 and P0174 codes which means I'm running lean. I've been bumping up the WOT A/R and have it up to 8% now (2%, 4%, and 6% still gave me P0171 and P0174). At 8%, it seems to be running ok as no CEL has turned on YET, but I'm not sure if that's optimal.

Has anyone seen this before? I've emailed Doug and I'm sure he'll respond soon, but I just wanted to post this since I've learned you guys are a fountain of knowledge.

My only mods so far are the JLT II CAI and Borla Stingers. Thanks in advance.

I put 93 in with "28 miles left to empty" warning in anticipation for the CAI and tune. I have also filled up with 93 with half a tank left yesterday.

That is your problem, reload the 87 tune and keep filling with 93.Once you are sure your tank is all 93 reload the 93 tune.
Hope this helps.

You don't think it's enough even though I only had 28 miles to empty when i filled it with 93 and I've filled another half a tank with 93?

Hey Po,

You should not have to mess with Doug's tune. Do not keep adding fuel to make the lean condition go away. If I were you I would stop messing with it and get in touch with Doug. My bet you have some other issue that is causing your lean condition. Doug's canned tune runs fine on hundreds if not thousands of other cars and they do not have to add fuel to stop the CEL's. If you have alot of driving to do in the next day or so you may want to return to stock until you talk to Doug. Just my .02$

Get in touch with Doug, he is the expert. Check the JLT, make sure it's tight, no leaks, got the hose attatched to the bottom (I forgot mine once)and stay out of WOT until you get it fixed. Lean and WOT aren't good, you might be hearing some pinging.

I know when I had a little 87 in mine, and them filled up with 93, I got some pinging, so I kept out of WOT for few fill ups. After a couple of near empty 93 fillups, pinging went away.

Something must be wrong here. Doug's tune is almost certain to be perfectly matched to the JLT and you should not be throwing codes. I wouldn't fool with your A/F settings and I'd put a call and email in to Doug pronto.

However, I'm not of the opinion that it's an octane problem. I initially was running DTP tunes for my JLT and we mistakenly(!) loaded the 93 tune with 87 octane fuel in the tank for our first go on the dyno. We boneheadedly made one datalogged pull on a Superflow dyno, but saw no evidence of detonation during the run. When we corrected the octane situation, we made only 1 more HP with similar readings from the knock sensors. However, Doug's tune my be quite different from DTP's, but my car runs very similarly with the two tunes, with a slight edge in throttle feel and low speed response with the Bamachips tune.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I am going to unhook the JLT and make sure everything is in place and tight, reseat the MAF, and recheck the hose.

I have emailed Doug. I'm sure he'll respond soon.

Edit: Just tested with 87 Performance Tune all day and no CEL. Changed back to 93 Performance and CEL turns on after 10-15 min.
