You don't say if you are running a manual or auto...
I have a manual and I usually shift between 2500 and 3500 when I am getting to highway speeds. If I want to race I will shift just below red line so I don’t bump the rev limiter… Say about 6000 rpms.
Interestingly I have been playing around with shifting and gas mileage. I have found that my gas mileage will increase about 3 mpg if I keep the rpms below 2000 when I am in town... If you don’t mind driving like a granny, it does work.

Based on this comment I assume you are asking about shift points when getting into it real good. If your a stick car stock with no tune to raise the rev limit then shift at around 6000 - 6100 rpm in all gears. If your an auto you dont have much choice of the shift as the computer controls it unless you get a retune. ?? Hope the info helps.

Thanks guys was just courious, I have a manual tranny and wit hthe TUNE I'm shifting at a higher RPM. I did find out that the red line rev limiter is set at 7k so I'm good to go and have some fun. And Flounderlipps thanks for posting your small mod list

I didn't want to rev too high, but I don't think there is much torque over 6200rpm.
I just wanted a little more so the next gear started at a higher speed and I didn't bounce off the limiter just before I felt I wanted to shift.
Mine is set to 6500rpm, I've rarely hit it since I switched.

For gas mileage, under 2000 RPM.
For performance, around 6000 RPM or less.

As long as you're above 4000 RPM, the car will accelerate faster. I noticed that the modular engines tend to bog a bit below 4000 RPM.

Shifting for racing in a stock GT, around 300-400 below redline as when the clutch is engaged it will pop up another 300 and help prevent bouncing off the rev limiter. A lot of this goes on at the track. The Power Band being approx. 3400 - 5750 in the GTs;- going much beyond 5800 rpm is over revving it. The TQ tops out around 4800.

For highway acceleration, between 3k and 4.5k is plenty.

City economy driving; - shift just below 2k. Or, float the gears at 1400-1600. This involves driving like a granny and no sudden accelerations, whilst planning ahead as to what the traffic is doing.

In daily driving my 05 this way for nearly two years now, and noticing a change in the clutch last week; - upon bringing her in and being told by the Tech. that he knows I drive like a European since it is just now the clutch has set in. They were laughing at me and saying in wanting that clutch upgrade, I shall be waiting a while.

If the rev limit is changed via program in the car, and basic bolt ons with the Power Curve and TQ curve adjusted accordingly, typically the shifting will be a few hundred rpm more.

For a Stock Auto 5R55S, launching more than 1800 to just below 2000, it will bog. Torque Conv. gets in and once underway, then get into it.

Full bolt ons and the associated tuning on an Auto with a stall of 3500 will make for a nice performer.
