Remote Custom Tuning from Doug

Just completed the first (or maybe not the first) remote custom tuning from Doug@Bamachips.

Man, what a cool experience.

Used LiveLink 4.17 and the SCT2 as a pass through. Datalogged the following points:

MAF AD Count
MAF Voltage
Engine RPM
Load
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
Spark

Took the car out for a drive and datalogged about 5 meg of information. Emailed the file to Doug. Adjustments were made to fine tune my custom tune.

Doug emails back the adjusted tune (takes all of 10 minutes) and then I dump it into the GT.

As I was telling Doug on the phone, doctors perform remote surgery so there should be no reason why remote tuning cant be done.

Car runs great. I'll run another datalog tomorrow and compare it with the adjusted tune. If further adjustments are required, I'll email the datalog to Doug and the process is repeated.

The remote tuning wasnt that expensive.........the price was right.

Many thanks to Doug for taking time out of his day to help.

This is so fricking cool.

That sounds like a great idea. Was their a big difference after the new tune.

No, there was no BIG difference. This remote tune was to FINE tune my existing custom tune. Which we did.

To take this idea even a step further.

Lets say your at the drag strip and you make a pass, datalogging all the way. If your laptop and dragstrip are equipped for WIFI, you email the datalogged pass to the tuner. The tuner makes adjustments to the tune, emails it back to you, it gets dumped in the car and off you go again.

No more standing around scratching your head wondering what the problem is.

Sounds very cool John. As busy as Doug is, that would be hard to do on the fly. But how cool would that be though if it was planned and ready for you..

I've been meaning to do this w/ Doug also, just can't seem to find the time or patience to get the laptop and SCT software running. Besides, he's planning on coming out my way soon.

Did you log just normal daily driving, 0-60+ runs, 1/4 mile runs? I have a manual and wondered if rolling starts to 60 in fourth would be enough data. I don't have anyplace around here remote enough to be datalogging 100+ 1/4 mile runs.

Get out much? You have a ton of wide open roads down there. Heck just go east a bit to the Sunsites-Pearce area and you have more straight open road than you would know what to do with

Normal driving.

Datalogged the rpm's at 1500 for a while 2000 for a while 2500 for a while then 3000 for a while. Saved the file and emailed it to Doug.
Also datalogged, MAF AD Counts, Short Term Fuel Trim, Advanced Spark, Spark and TP (throttle position). Doug turns off the Long Term Fuel Trims so there is no need to datalog those input points.

Since I'm running the WMS, the MAF Sensor is only 6" away from the throttle body plates. The GT develops a lot of vacuum on deceleration. When the TB plates close there is a air backwash that develops causing the intake air to flow back toward the MAF Sensor. (wrong direction and clearly visible on the datalog)

Doug has been tuning all of that out. Plus the STFT's ( idle and cruise speeds) were not at exactly 14.7:1 (1.0) so those were also corrected where needed.

I dont really have anywhere to datalog WOT around here, so I'll have to wait until the dragstrip opens this coming spring.

This service is a value added benefit from using Bamachips tunes.

I like to call it Real World Driving Remote Custom Tuning.

I run both Bama 93 and Brenspeed 93 and both are within .10 of eachother.

If you asked me that a year ago, I would have. My newborn son keeps me pretty occupied while the wife works weekends. I barely have 15 minutes to myself on the weekends and when I do I take a nap.
