Ramps or Jack Stands while working under vehicle
Can't go wrong with these ramps. http://www.raceramps.com/
The Rhino ramps lasted me about 1 year. Then they started slipping to the point I couldn't get the car on them anymore. They also started sagging pretty bad which worried me having the car on them. In the trash they went.
Depending on what you are working on, ramps are fine just make sure you put blocks behind the other wheels. When I use jack stands, I still place something under the car near the jack stands just incase the car slips. I have seen what happens when someone is under a car and it slips off a jack stand.
I use 6 ton jackstands. Ramps seem to get in the way.
ramps are good as long as you dont need to take a front tire off...perfect for oil changes.
I'll use both, seperately. Just depends on what I'm doing. I'll usually put the car up on jack stands and then slide those ramps under the wheels just in case if you know what I mean. I know it's paranoid, but it gives me piece of mind, bigtime.
Actually, I should clarify that I currently use jackstands. In less than a year... when my new house is finished... I'll have one of these in there (except for the yellow jelly bean part).
I'm having the garage built with a 12' ceiling so I can do it!

Very nice Don. If/when I get to build MY house, it will definitely have a full shop that has at least one of that type lift and very tall ceilings. The older I get, the less willing I am to crawl around on my back...
Are you building yet, or still fighting with insurance companies and builders?

We're getting the build underway right now. Retaining walls are going in and digging of the foundation for the house is supposed to begin next week some time. I have a thread started HERE that summarizes the events of last year (including pics and video), and will chronicle the whole rebuild. So far I have posted the floor plans, as well as some pics of the work done in the past week. I plan on updating it every week or so, so check in from time to time if you want to see how things are progressing.
I can pretty much assure you that I won't spend much time detailing under the car.

LOLHey Don,
I have mixed feelings. I am so sad that you and Donna have had to wait a whole year just to break ground on your replacement home.
Something needs to be done about the system. However I am just tickled that it will be bigger and better than ever!! You guys deserve it!!!!!!Best from me and the wife!!!!

Thanks Scott! It's been frustrating for sure, but you're right. We're looking at the bright side.
