Pros and Cons of non-catted OR H-Pipe?
Pros and Cons of non-catted OR H-Pipe?
This weekend I went and picked up a complete exhaust system, minus headers, from Tom. It was such a good deal, I couldn't resist picking up the whole system, even though I just wanted the Borla Axle backs. I figure I'll at least use the Stingers, and the overaxle pipes. But am debating about the H-pipe.
I contacted a local Ford dealer that does a lot of performance mods. They said that labor will be $330 for the whole system. But if I wanted to install the H-pipe. The car will have to be hauled to and from the dealer because it has no cats.
Right now I don't have any resources to install the entire system myself. I'll have to wait until I one of my friends with some lifts can help.
But my question is, do I really want to install the H-pipe? I'd really love to try it. But this is my daily driver, and really don't want to be ticketed for not having cats. Is it obvious when someone doesn't have them installed? What are the chances someone would get pulled over for the system?
Do most of you have cats, or no? Does OR automaticly mean no cats?
Just trying to get an idea of what I'm about to get in to. LOL

The fine is pretty hefty for not having cats on your car. Your odds of getting caught are probably just as the odds of getting pulled over for drunk driving.. (1 in 3000) but it's up to you.
Most stick with cats as the performance gain to fine ratio is not that significant.
Stick with the CATS if your in a **** smog state or high flow cats if you really are worried about a minute amount of power gain.
For the record I considered recently going catless.. but forgot about it quickly.

I drove around without cats in my 05, and although I loved the rumble, the smell of raw fuel was a bit too much at times, and I always worried that some motor cop would come up behind me and smell it. Hi flow catted H's are cool, but pricey. MRT sells one for around $500.
I love my JBA shorty - O/R-H - FRPP Stinger combo.
I set off car alarms and scare small children.

I love my offroad H (and yes OR does mean no cats, hence it is for Offroad use ONLY) but i live in south texas where almost every performance mustang or GM is running catless. Here you will have beeter chances of getting a ticket for disturbing the peace before they even think about giving you a ticket. A big plus for me is they do not do smog checks here, most shops do not have the resources to buy or own a smog machine so they just drive the car around and say yes or no. Some shops will be strict and look under the car and see if the cats are there. But the sound just is just priceless
OR pipes are WAY loud on these 3 valve cars. IMO they sound like crap too. Very crude, non refined, obnoxious tone. High flow cats are the way to go, but pricey. The $330 price for installation is pretty steep considering the whole job will take an hour at best.
