I got a call from a friend in SC a month ago saying he was looking at a destroyed 05 GT engine. The story is a guy had a bunch of parts added to this car including a lot of boost by his local speed shop. Before he even took delivery of the car BOOM the engine was in pieces. I would have hated to make that phone call to a customer!
He just e-mailed me these pictures today. If you like this type of stuff there is a section on brenspeed.com with a bunch more broken parts.

hahahaha geez that looks like a perfect rod shape....it reminds me of those cartoons where the guy runs through the door and an image of him is smashed out.
sucks to be that guy....just shows the limitations of the 05....

How much boost was reportedly given to the engine to cause this?

That wouldn't have happened if he had a BRENSPEED tune!

Basically very similar to my 9# boost ProCharger 05 that blew. I am sure in the next few months, we will see even more of these. I woudl love to hear what they think "caused" it along with the specs of the engine, boost, tune, etc.

Brenspeed, are you trying to tell us something that maybe your not allowed to say?
If the answer is yes, then dont reply.. If its no, then reply stating what you want for christmas! LOL!! Sounds wiered, but somehow, he needs to try and protect the 4.6's.. I hate to see new motors with holes in them..

I doubt itwas the S/C brand and moreso the boost or fuel (or lack there of). Who knows. We may never know what caused it - they may have hot lapped 2,3 or more runs on a highly boost engine during dyno runs.

Yes, however if we dont find out what Brenspeed wants for Christmas, then that will mean something...
Did you ever get your shortblock installed? I felt bad for you when you informed us of the same problem..

WOW!! So this means that their could be a problem with the ProChargers S/C? This is now 2 reported problems.. Brenspeed makes it a point to inform us about the name of the S/C..

It had nothing to do with Procharger. Because so many internal components were broke I would say it was just making more power than it could handle.

For Christams I want a turbo for my 90 Mustang 5.0. I don't need anything for the 05 because it pretty much gets anything it wants. The 5.0 is always the neglected child that started this mustang aftermarket craze so it deserves something special this year.

Sounds good.. I'll talk to Santa Claw about the turbo..

Anybody have any comments on the idea of building a forged bottom end in an aluminum block? ..... if I can get to 600hp safely, I'd rather save the weight instead of going to an iron block.... but at this point, it's all future plans. Aren't the cylinders sleeved? I'm hopin' that maybe a stud girdle will provide enough ridgidity in the block for me to be able to use an aluminum one.

Did the same thing to a 96 Cobra with a KeeneBell SC on 9 lbs of boost. I said it back in March and I will say it again. The pistons and rods is these mod motors are very brittle. If you keep it to 6lbs of boost and under I think they will live for a while if they don't detonate.
Push it over that and your looking for trouble. If you want a blower motor than build a blower motor with the forged stuff. I am sure this is why Saleen has only come out with 4 lbs of boost.

Would a turbo make any difference in this? Are the engines having a problem at high revolutions? Is it perhaps a better idea to make more power down low quicker?
Boy, did Ford try to limit the amount of power that one could put to the motor? Its one thing for them to hold back on the Liters, in terms of this 4.6.. Its another thing for them to have designed the motor, so even guys who know what they are doing must kittyfoot around the motor.. There are some guys who are getting it done.. So why them, and not the others.. Is it all the motors fault, or does some blame go to the people setting up the tune, and not watching things with an educated guess while the car is making pulls on the dyno?
