I want to install a new shifter mech to get a better flow from second to third. Appreciate opinions from anyone with experience with both shifters.

i can't say that i've driven a 05 w/ an a/m shifter, but also I can't say I've ever driven a better shifting mustang in my life....I love the stock shifter...and I've heard (don't know for sure), that the transmission has some type of built in stops so that you can't overshift them like the old t-5's and t-45's.
I love this transmission so far....lets just see if it holds up.

I have had an 02GT with a Pro 5.0 and now have an 05 with a Tri-ax and can tell you you won't go wrong with either brand. They both have great reputations and most likely cost near the same price. I can tell you that the 05 works great with the Tri-ax, shifting is sooooo much better than stock. The new transmission/shifter system in the 05 feels less sturdy and less "connected" than previous years because of the positioning of the gearshift in the transmission tunnel now versus bolting directly in the trans before. The Tri-ax makes it feel as though your shifter is bolted directly in your trans and gives a better feel for the engine and driveline, a tribute that I particularly like.

I installed the triax a couple weeks ago and love it. The shifting definetly feels better and I havaen't missed a second to third shift yet The triax uses brass bushings to connect the shifter to the stock shift linkage. The stock shifter has rubber bushings, so you feel a little more vibration from the triax. I also like the taller shift lever and topped it off with a Steeda aluminum rubber grip **** that matches the interior perfect. The stock was too stubby for me..her's a pic

Thanks, looks good! I just finished ordering the Triax. Yeah, the second to third throw on the stock is iffy at best.

I'm not sure what some of the 05 owners are experiencing, but I have NEVER had a problem with shifting between ANY of the gears...may want to look into warranty instead of upgrade!!!

Thers's a handy little diagram on the shift **** that depicts the shift sequence, ex: to go from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, move the shifter up and slightly to the right.....hahaha just a joke

Thanks guys - I didn't realize there were shifter upgrads yet for the '05. I had the Steeda Tri-Ax on my '00GT and it was HEAVEN compared with the rubbery feeling stock shifter. The steeda reduced the shift "throw" a bit, was much more precise - but because of the elemination of the rubber bushing - was transmitted much more of the tranny noise into the cabin.....I was able to eleminate most of the added noise with Dynamat Extreme and some creative thinking! Loved that shifter though and will consider it for the '05......however, I really like the short throw of the '05 manual shifter and would not want to add any length to the shifter.....any comments??

The Triax is even a shorter throw.

2K5pony - in your pic above (by the way looks nice) is your Tri-ax adjusted to the highest setting? I like the "stubby" look/feel of the stock and wouldn't want a taller shift ****?

thx for the pics - looks nice. By the way - do you notice an increase in noise with the Steeda shifter?

Paul - thanks - I should have been more precise in my comment - I was referring to the actual shifter height - not the "throw". B)

I am wondering the same thing. I have had a tri-ax before, and I like it...but I like the short handle on the stock shifter.

I had some issues with the 2-3 shift, but it's gotten less notchy with time. Still nice and tight, just not recalcitrant.

Yes, that is the highest of the two settings for the shift handle. In the lower setting it probably would only make about a 1/2" difference though. As far as transmission noise it really didn't make that big of difference that I could really notice. Like i said it uses brass bushings to connect to the stock linkage so it has slightly more vibration than the stock but it isn't that big of deal. Just remember if you order one that the Triax shift handle is a different thread size than the stock ****. The shifter boot dosen't really fit perfect with the new **** I got from Steeda but it still looks pretty sweet. IMO i think they should include a shift handle with the factory thread size so you can keep the factory look of the stock shift **** and leather boot matching up better.

I have a shop with equipment (portable bansaw), if it's too tall for me, it prolly won't be for long!

I don't know if they have been making two shift levers or not, you guys keep talking about it not accepting the stock shift ****. My Tri-ax fits fine with the stock ****. It is a killer feel and look though I prefer a bit larger and spherical ball type shifter as I have already changed.
