My dealer specifically told me not to use synthetic oil. What's the deal?

As long as the oil meets Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A (per the owner's manual), it doesn't matter whether it's synthetic or not. There are several synthetics that meet that spec. Your dealer is clueless.

I'm assuming Mobil 1 Synthetic meets this.

I'm using Royal Purple, but it's a little expensive.

Amsoil does as well:

I couldn't find any info regarding Royal Purple but Mobil 1 and Amsoil are considered to be the best synthetics on the market (which is better between the two is a matter of very fervent debate). You can't go wrong with either.

Well, my salesman tried to explain, but I just looked at him funny. Said that since it was a modular engine, it needed dino.

A. Never heard of such a thing.

B. Never take a salesman word regarding the technical or performance aspects of a car. Most are clueless.

C. As long as it meets manufacturers spects your good.

maybe it was the same salesman who told me that the spoiler delete option would cost $200 and then "built a car" on the ford website and then couldn't explain why after i pointed out it was a NO COST OPTION. - either that, or they attended the same car salesman school. after hearing that, you should have checked the bottom of your shoes - cause you were smelling BS or HS.

This is what I thought, just trying to figure out how my salesman got it in his head not to use synthetic. I was almost positive you could, just kinda caught me off guard he'd say something like that.

Besides trying to make me find the fuel cutoff switch on the passenger side instead of the driver side, and this, he was pretty good.
