Oil Filter Removal

I just changed my oil and wanted to report on how easy it was... I've read that some people have commented on the difficulty in removing the oil filter. I found that it comes off very easily if you use a cap wrench. The size is 93mm x 15 flute with 3/8" drive available at most places that sell auto supplies. I purchased mine at Advance Auto for about $5.00. Just slip it over the filter and attach a 3/8" drive to it and torque to the left. I admit that it was very tight, however, still came off with ease. FYI- I used 6 qts of Mobil 1 5W20 w/ Mobil 1 M1210 filter . From start to finish the whole process took about 25 minutes. I enjoy changing my own oil... . It's like making a connection with the car .

Same here, been doing my own for 30yrs now, rather do it myself that have somebody who doesn't care about your ride doing it. Do all my work myself & have , but I've been a wrench most of my career though.
Thats the only time I wish this thing had more than 6" ground clearance LOL
Born & raised in Western PA myself, haven't lived there for quite some time, but it's still home.

Yeah, I just changed mine for the first time a month ago, had been taking it to the dealership. I went to slip the socket on the drain plug to make sure I had the right size and just touching the plug caused it to turn. I'd say that was a wee bit loose, no?

+1 - I don't trust anyone but me to change my oil. I've also found that making a cardboard "drain gutter" to place under the oil filter really helps....keeps the filter oil from running into the rack & pinion and other components down there. Be sure to make a rear edge so the oil won't flow toward the back end.

My strap wrench worked fine too, but it was the hardest to get off of any filter I've touched in 30+ years of oil changes.
You just have to wonder what they do at the factory.

Naw, still to wimpy, okay he might be able to get it with a torque multiplier and an 8 foot lever.

On another note, please tell me that is a photoshop and not A a mutant, B a gamma irradiated human, or C somebody who went a little bit overboard on the steriods
