There are 2 indicaters I go by. 1, visual inspection of the oil on the dip-stick and 2 recommended change interval in your manual. If you can't read 'safe' through the oil on the stick or even have trouble seeing 'safe' , change it even if it has only 2,000 miles on it. Dirty is dirty. But even if you have say 7500 miles on that same oil, and it still looks good and you, change it! Why? On most mustangs in recent years that is the recommended mileage interval. Additive packages can become spent in most oils by that time and can start causing damage to the enginne.

Yea I hear ya. My oil looks nearly fresh out of the bottle at 3k. I use a k&n filter, whether that helps or not idk but it's seems to do alright. Thanks for the info!
