Has anyone here installed a lower temp thermostat? Is there any power gain with this mod.... since these cars run better when cold? Also is there any problems with a lower temp themostat, do you need to retune ? Thanks

Our local tuner says this,"I would personally not recommend going with a 160 degree T-stat. Your engine was designed to run around 200 deg. Running it down to 180 is ok but below that it will actually advance the ring wear on your pistons. Your piston clearances, bearings, etc. are designed for 180-200 degree operation, below that you will cause engine wear earlier. I've seen pics of motors that were run at 160 degrees for a long time and the pistons were scuffed, rings worn, and had carbon build-up on the piston tops. You will not gain any more power running at 160 anyway. Remember, you efi doesn't even go into closed loop until 150 degrees, below that it's considered a "cold" start."

I run a 160 Tstat, and all that really does is allow coolant circulation to start a little sooner. It won't cause the engine to run below the 180-200 range. It also won't add any power.

And yes, I also use Water Wetter.

i also have a 160 tstat and i also use water wetter in both the S/C coolant and the engine coolant
