loose rattling exhaust

Was/is anyone else's exhaust loose/make a rattling noise? I dont believe I have a broken/bad muffler as stated in other threads about flowmaster. I installed the flowmaster kit, and the drivers side exhaust seems loose and sometimes makes a rattle on low rpm take offs. I have everything very tight, tight as I can get it. Do the hangers go bad? I will likely have to take it to a Midas or something and have them take a look.

Advise, experiences?

I had the same thing when I installed them. Make sure both clamps are ontop of the H pipe and flowmaster. At the tip where they both connect. Tight them down as much as you can and you will be all set.

I got them 3 days ago, been on for 2 days maybe 10 miles of driving. I will double check the connection muffler to H-pipe. the h-pipe on the drivers side seems looser than the passenger as well.

I just put my flowmasters on last night. I tried using the stock ford clamps but they would not tighten down enough. The driver side too was the one I had all the trouble with. I ended up slitting the muffler pipe about 1" down across from the line up slit and used their clamps supplied with the mufflers. It finally clamped good. The bad part about it was you had to drop the muffler to get at the clamps but on the second go around I dropped the Mid pipe from the H-pipe and was able to take the pipe out of the muffler without unbolting the mufflers from the hangers. Even though it may look tight take the pipe from the back of the muffler and shake it if it's tight the other pipe should move right with it. I would suggest that you do not weld them in case the muffler baffles come loose then you'll have a real pain in the a_ _.

Another thing to check is make sure the post from the muffler that goes into the hanger is sitting about half way in - mine was in so far it was rubbing on the outside of the hanger - sounded like the rear end was grinding.
And like 05Retro said - don't have them welded on. I'm dealing with that problem right now. See the thread "aluminized vs stainless".

05 Retro,

I loosed the muffler to h-pipe clamp, then pushed the muffler as far as Icould on to the h-pipe, then adjusted the clamp so that it was more on the muffler while still over the middle of that little stopper/alignment peg that is on the end of the h-pipe. then I got out the bigger racket set and really torqued down on it. No rattles.

Thanks again

It seems a few rattles after installation is somewhat common. For most, myself included, it was just a bolt that worked itself loose or just needed a slight tweaking, just as in your case.

Definatley recheck your clamps if rattle occurs. Put my Flowmasters on and took the car for a ride, everything was fine. Today I started the car up an guess what, Rattle Time. Crawled under the car and sure enough passenger side was not clamped tight enough at muffler. One thing I don't understand about Flowmaster is why they don't slit their pipes where the muffler clamps go so the pipe can compress on the mating pipe. I originally had the problem on the drivers side when installing them and slit that one, it stayed tight.
