Gang,

I bit the bullett and purchased the K&N kit from Summitt Racing. $244 and 4 days later in was at my door. I wanted some more power but did not want to retune the car (warranty concerns).

The installation was pretty easy and the car does pull a bit harded in the upper RPMs...the car really takes off like a rocket when you grab the next gear. Overall I am pretty happy with it.

I had removed the HC trap when I had the stock system but reinstalled it with the K&N (basically what the instructions called for).

I can not help but think that removing it would help the car run a touch better- have any of you removed that thing with the K&N system? If so, any issues?

BTW, the intake noise is now dam near as loud as the stock exhaust sount

Thanks,
Dan

I would try it without it.

Main reason being is that Ford stopped even putting the HCT in the cars on the 2006 model, or late 05 model year.

yes they may have stopped putting it in, but the new cars are tuned to not have it

you can only really tell is if you take it to a dyno

My 05 didn't have one and I put the K&N on and did not have a problem. BTW if you do a tune (which really helps) and you need to take the car in for warranty work, just put your stock tune back in. It takes all of 3 min.

I have been told that the dealer can tell if I have reflashed the car- is that true?

I showed the "owner" the the dealership and my salesman the JLT intake and told them about the SCT 91 tune. They both asked for a ride and were impressed with the performance increase. I asked what about the warranty and the owner of the dealership told me that unless the problem was directly related the the tine and cia he could care less.

Just flash it back to stock and drive it for about 50 miles with a few cool down periods and there's no way they can tell. The driving/cool down stuff is just to make for sure. Usually they can't tell anyway aslong as you flashed it back to stock.

They would have about the same chance telling you reflashed as if you changed your dome light......

hey Dan, I had the HC trap in my stock air box as well and went with the K&N aircharger. I did put the HC trap in the K&N and had my car dynoed with and without the HC trap. End result a bit more power WITHOUT the HC trap. My car has been running fine since July without it. No CELs or anything.
Hope this helps

Thanks very much for the response- had your tune been done at that point?Did you notice if the air/fuel ratio changed before and after the trap removal?

Also- do you recall how much power you picked up with the HC trap?

Nice car- mine is black also o!

I did end up using the Predator 93 canned tune. The air fuel ratio barely changed. With the HC trap out the dyno showed a tad more power in the low end. When my car was stock I took the HC trap out and then put it back in as per the directions of the K&N. But once I seen the difference I just took it out all together. The car pinged a tad when I first took out the HC trap from the K&N but has since gone away once the cars pc learned. I have been driving this way since July with no issues.
