Dont realy like the black plastic.

look at the installation instructions, it tells us to put the hydrocarbon trap back in the CAI!!, there is a place that holds the hydrocarbon trap. I thought maybe by keeping the trap out that it would boost the 15 horsepower a lil more, but look at the note they have....
NOTE:
The intake system is designed to use the factory hydrocarbon trap, Failure to use the Hydrocarbon Trap will result in poor performance and possible engine damage may result.
take a look at the instructions....

Hey Jessica, congrats on the intake. I was wondering if you would mind answering a couple questions about it.
-Have you noticed an increase in HP and MPG?
-Have you done any other performance related modifications (i.e. tune, exhaust...)?
-Have you noticed if your stang runs any different?
-Any problems since installing the intake (check engine light, excess rubber burning, etc.)?
Sorry for all the questions. You're the only one I know of with this kit. Thanks for your help.

Jonathan, when I first got back into it and drove it, I defintely felt some difference. I wasnt sure if it was in my mind or not, because they wouldnt even give me my own dyno from the install.
I took it on the freeway that first day, and there was no mistaking the difference. She BREATHES. It feels easier to get up to speed, (not that it was that difficult) and at speed, really feels open. For the first couple days I had to watch my speed, like when I first got it.
I have no other mods. I wanted to wait until they were done with this, to see exactly how it changed the stock performance.
I am not stoked about the look of it.. but, I am defintely happy about the performance. I have had it two weeks, and not a single problem. I had not removed my HC Trap as of yet, which turned out to be a good thing.
I havent noticed any increase in MPG.
He defintely did say that while they built the kit to not require a tune, or chipping, doing so would further increase the HP gain. He said the mileage gain is negligible.
Here is a pic at a different angle.

Thanks for the responses and the pic Jessica. Glad to hear that you are happy with it.
As soon as I can find a dealer, I will be ordering one. I was conerned with the check engine light coming on, or making it run lean. I appreciate the feedback.
I have Bassani's axle-back kit on mine now. I am thinking about adding their x-pipe. I know I will definitely make mine louder by adding K&N's kit.
I'd like to do these mods without having to tune it. I don't want to void my warranty just yet. Glad to hear that you aren't having any problems with it in stock form. Thanks again.

I don't understand how they are getting those power gains without a tune?
Every other CAI intake requires a tune with a similar design. C&L and MMR said that they wouldn't need a tune when they first released and then came back saying that they were wrong.
Is K&N going to run into the same situation?

Just going by what Jessica said, she has had the intake for 2 weeks now, no tune, completely stock, and has noticed a power increase. She also stated that she hasn't experienced any problems (check engine light, rough idle...) since the install. It might have something to do with the hydrocarbon trap. As far as I know, K&N is the only one that states you must re-install it when you install their kit.

I think the key here is that K&N wanted to make a kit that was 50 state legal, and quite possibly get a C.A.R.B exemption for it as well. That's why the H-Trap is in place, and no tune is required. They held back on purpose.
#39
The KnN system is not 50 state legal, and is not CARB Exempt, so I don't know exactly what they were doing with putting the hydrocarbon trap back in. They need to come out with an FIPK system that needs a tune (Predator) and I will feel a little happier. Has anyone used an Aircharger system for the last generation Stang compared to an FIPK system? Just want to know exactly what the difference is, and why this system is not 50 state legal. Anyone know?

hmmmmmm...
A CAI with the Hydrocarbon Trap still in? Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it. I wanted a CAI so my baby can breath better. I guess if you wanted a CAI without having to get a tune this would be your thing, but why even mess with it if you aren't going to get a good HP increase.
Just my two cents...
