JMS Pedal Max???????
JMS Pedal Max???????
'The huge delay in gas pedal response on my 'O6 GT drives me nuts, especially on heel and toe downshifting. The Pedal Max giizmo is meant to address that problem. I'm tempted to go ahead and get one but I thought I ask if any S197 guys have tried it.
I'm also wondering if the SCT tuner can address this problem when changing tunes?

Yes, the Steeda tune is written to help with throttle response ... all while adding HP & better drivability.
I would be happy to put you in contact with one of our lead tuners to talk about either product - here is a section on the Pedal Max https://themustangsource.com/forums/...ax-wow-532860/

Hi TJ,
Thanks for the quick response. I'm ready to go with this device but think a Steeda tuner will give me options beyond just cleaning up that dead spot at the beginning of the pedal travel.
Who should I talk to in the tuning dept.?

Some of the dead spot in the pedal can be mechanical also. Manufacturing tolerances are to blame for this. No tune can fix that part of it. Here is an easy fix without having to change throttle response in the tune. You can overdo it and make it too sensitive. Anyways I first used some double sided tape just to see how much pedal travel I wanted to take out at the top.

Then once I got it to about where I liked it I used lead tape and built up about 12-14 layers to get it just right.

This will eliminate any dead spot. And then go get the tune adjusted for the actual response, pedal position vs throttle blade angle.
Don't worry about making it too thick. The car re-calibrates the pedal at idle when you start it. it's not like it's going to rev out of control like a runaway diesel.

You can always calibrate the pedal to the fly by wire by doing the reset procedure.
You turn the key on but do not start. Wait for all the dash lights to go out. Depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor and release. Turn key off. Start the vehicle. You've successfully calibrated the fbw system. It cures 99% of the original throttle response problems.
I know I wouldn't spend the money on the add on, when this works better than anything. It even makes it so you don't have to shim the pedal. JMO, of course.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll definitely try the shimming/re-calibrating. I think the price of the JMS unit is just too high. If it was $30 rather than $300 I'd try it.
In the meantime I ordered the SCT 4 tuner from Steeda after talking with Rodney on the phone.

You are making a great choice - happy to hear you went with Steeda!
If you need anything further, don't hesitate to let Rodney or me know.

I used a brick to hold the pedal down while I laid the tape on there. Just be careful not to bump the brick off the pedal and remove the brick slowly when you're done. That thing can snap back up and smack you in the face if you're not careful. Don't ask me how I know this.
It is a potientiometer. It's like a fuel tank sender. It reads the resistance at the strips.
I was just pointing out the Ford procedure for reseting a pedal that seems out of sort. It does work quite often. FBW is like anything else, it has it be right to be right. lol

Hoooray!!!!!!, SCT unit arrived from Steeda this afternoon. I'll install the new tune tomorrow in time for my 400 mile trip over to California this weekend for the Vintage Sports Car Festival at Fontana Speedway. Thanks, TJ, Rodney, and Matt H.
BTW, akdoggie, I tried your pedal re-clalibration and now heel and toe downshifts are not a hit and miss deal.
Is this a great country or what??? Thanks guys.
