My C&L CAI did not melt or deform.

I wonder if the metal insert will get too hot?

Well, I'm off to get my car dyno'd....

Well, I must say, that's a very adult comment you made there 38special.
You've out done yourself.
You should be proud.

Got my insert in the mail from Jay yesterday - will install it this weekend. I haven't had any problems - have only had the CAI on a couple weeks. I doubt that the pipe is warped at all, but I'll throw the insert in just to keep it that way.

Jay - 2 questions:

(1) What was the short, black hose-like piece you included with the insert? Does that have any purpose, or was it maybe just packing material or something?

(2) Can you tell me the size of the black plastic tubing you use running from the pipe to engine? My piece was a little short, so that it's stretched real tight and is kind of "crimping" where it attaches to the engine. I'm sure I can just get a little longer piece at home depot or whatever for 30 cents or something. Also, what's the purpose of this tubing? Think I'll feel any difference one I put a better piece in that's not crimping near the engine?

Thanks!

I think the tubing is for putting over your radiator hose to cut down on the heat transferring from the hose to the pipe.

Tucker

My mirth of the moment got the better of me.

I'm actually very happy that you are fixing a product defect with so much elan. This website can help get the word out pretty quick.

Don't take everything so personally. I'll leave my mirth above, un-edited and take my scorn like a man.

Yeah, but with the JLT I bet you would've got that extra .2HP on the dyno [/mirth]

Put the sleeve on your radiator hose for heat protection and the hose is 3/8". You can get it from a auto parts store or just about any hardware store.

It's funny that when I comment back I'm taking things personal or am short fused.

No harm no foul, but I must say I'm over the comments. I can only bite my tounge so hard.

I got a CEL today and my filter was a little loose after i checked it immediatly after parking the car.

I didn't have time at that time to tighten it and I didn't have a screwdriver so it was about an hour later that I could do anything about it.

The car was parked the whole time for that one hour.

When I rechecked the filter it was snug and tight ?!!??

So one of two things must have happened.

1) The hose clamp expanded when hot and after things cooled down it
shrunk.
2) The tube shrunk when hot and then restored itself when cooled.

I think #1 is the more likely scenario.

I'm going to try putting the clamp in boiling water then putting it on and using Loctite on the screw.

I dont have the metal insert so I might wait until I get it. You are sending it to me aren't you Jay?

I can tell you exactly what happened. THe plastic got hot and the force of the clamp made it shrink. THen it cooled and retained it's shape.

This is where tightening when hot is bad.

The insert will stop this.

Jay, thanks for the incredibly quick turnaround on the insert...emailed you in the morning, and you had already shipped it a little later in the day.

You display true attention to customer service.

Oh yeah - now over 3,000 miles on my JLT CAI for the 2005 GT with no additional issues (since the filter came off). I love it and will vouch for your product and customer service any day.

Jay, got my insert Thursday and installed it Friday.
I had to get hold of a heat gun to get it in the tube. The tube had deformed a bit on the end and was too small. This thing is really tight now. It will be back on the car soon now. I hope heating the tube up didn't deform the MAF cut out. The whole area got soft enough for the insert to be installed.

Good to hear you all are getting the inserts all ready. I've been shipping them as fast as the requests come in. Allong with all my regular orders...

Put a small bead of silicon around the MAF seal to make sure there is no leaks.

Jay, I've installed the CAI back on the car and have been driving all morning.
It's hot here also. No problems. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Got in my truck to see what the Temp said. 114!!!!!!!! ouch. I think it's only 98 in the shade.
Thanks again Jay for the quick mailing of the inserts.
