Has anyone taken the insulation out of their GTs to improve the weight? Could this be a hundred or more pounds off the car? Also how bad is the noise levels with the insulation out?
Just trying to figure out some weight saveing tactics that don't mess with the cars looks.

Take out three seats, the spare and jack plus whats left in the trunk. Hood insulation could go too. I bet it would be noisy. You could sure hear that motor.

even with all that stuff i still hear the mighty v8 screaming..... as far as how much weight will it save by pulling it out... prob... about 100 pounds if that much .. depending what type of material it is.....

I took off all the panels from the doors back and there is hardly an insulation at all! It might save you about 3 pounds! No kidding!

I've heard somewhere that all the carpet padding/insulation and the insulation throughout the car totals up about 45lbs. Your weight reduction will really happen when you remove the a/c, passenger seat, electric window motors. One way to drop 26lbs from the front is to remove the sway bar and radiator support, then replace all that with BMR's radiator/swaybar delete bar.

There's not much cornering on a 1/4 mile track! It's obviously not for everyone. You asked a general question and I answered.

Ford spends millions of dollars on engineering...they know these cars in and out. The little bit you save in weight from taking everything out is only going to make the car noisy and reveal squeaks and rattles. Have fun though

Yes they do, but they engineer these cars for daily driving. He's looking for weight reduction for racing applications.

exactly my point...the couple of pounds you save are not worth compromising the inegrity of the vehicle...you are not pro stock...if you want power get a blower or nitrous

I am not sure whether I will go the rout of removing any of the sound deadening or insulation but just wanted to get opinions and experiences on the subject. I think I will do further research hopefully with racers and ford engineers to find out the actual weight savings and cons of the removal.
In Summary I probably won't end up doing it for at least a while when the car becomes less of a daily driver and more about having fun in autocross and speed contests.

i didnt say anything about safety...the material is in place for a reason...most likely for sound. The best thing to do is to go to shows and talk with others, perhaps ford mustang team members....this will tell you exactly whats going on...dont do things just because...it will get you in a lot of trouble...learn why its there and the compromise that will result due to its removal
