plus....the difference in sound and Hp does not justify a $400 difference between shorties and LT's.
But to each his own.

There are quite a few people around that will protest against the purchase of shorties because they just dont offer much in the way of increased performance. You are better off with the stock manifolds if you ask me cause fooling around with removal isnt a walk in the park. If you want to feel your car pull harder right off the bat, Long Tubes are the way to go unless you are scared that you'll get a fix-it-ticket here in California.
I can talk cause I have that so-called first hand experience. I'll even back up my claims with dyno runs in the next several weeks.

Living here in CA, if I get a fix it ticket...I need to be able to throw my cats back on easily.

didn't I say that?
the difference in sound and throttle response between the stock manifold and shorty headers....backed up with the fact they are EASIER to install. PLUS it will be easier to remove and re-install the cats if necessary. Combined with a 0-10hp gain....I think is worth $300.
Dan (Cleveland), how did you connect your Hookers onto the h-pipe? Also, from the pic in your thread it looks like the end of the headers don't have a flange on them. So, how did you connect them to your h-pipe? I have tha Bassani off-road x-pipe... but I'm guessing they would attach the same way.
They use a slip fit collector, you might have to modify the mid pipe some (the hangers) and expand the end of the pipe after cutting it.
If you want power in Cali forget about installing shorties and just install an offroad pipe. Installing even a set of shorties isnt gona be all that easy. Replacing the mid-pipe and cutting out the cats is though.

i hear that the primary tubes on bbk s are 1 5/8 in size sounds sweet to me but if isnt bolt on im going to have to think about tthat one , my fiance says she will buy me headers for the stang for christmas , she is the coolist !!
So, I guess if Bassani's own LT headers won't fit to their x-pipe, then you aren't going to find LT headers that are "bolt-on". When I have the money for headers, I plan to have them installed by a shop... so I guess they'll have to make any cuts/welds to get them to work.

My wife is getting me a "toon" of my car from Blip (TMS Member and Moderator) for Christmas. A lot cheaper than headers, and won't give you that muscle car sound... but I am still as excited. That's a preliminary sketch in my avatar.
she becomes miss godspeed on june 10 ,2006 bless her soul she doesnt have a clue what she is gettin in to ,
i havent reseached long tube headers as of yet but i presume they are bolt on with there x or h pipe only ???

Back when they actually had coming soon info on their site for the 05 and up Mustang headers, they indeed said that their "optimum length" headers will mate up with their mid-pipes, just remove the cat-legs and they'll bolt right up. What the Bassani mid-pipes won't do is bolt up to anyone elses true longtubes. But of course any competant shop can make that happen, it just won't be a bolt-in application.
The Bassani's that were recently released for the 2v and 4v 4.6 's which were pictured earlier in the thread are NOT longtube headers. Bassani calls them "optimum length" other manufacturers call them "mid-length" headers. They're in between long tubes and shorties.
You'll notice the collectors (the end of the headers) on Dan's car turn to a 90 degree angle and parallel the frame rails. The Bassani's collectors never make that last bend to 90 degress, it basically ends right where the stock cats do now on a stock vehicle, thus why they'll bolt right up to their own midpipes by just removing the cat delete legs.
Tony, thanks for the info. I can settle for mid-length headers, I guess. I guess it depends on how much the Bassani's end up being. If I can get some LT headers for a couple hundred cheaper, I might as well do that and have a shop mate them with my Bassani x-pipe. A lot to think about, but luckily headers are months away for me.

Ooops, almost forgot about "increased throttle response". That seems to be a catchy one for '05/06.

@ 111 is pretty high for those mods, basically I dont believe that is correct. You should be putting down more power to make that mark.

I've made over 550 runs this season and I missed a few days.
Timeslips separated by 7 weeks only mods on the car at the time of the 09/09 slip were a C&L intake and Diablo Predator and Steeda roadrace suspension on factory tires.
I got 104mph bone stock with 180 miles on the car 5 days after I bought it.
Do you like this one better?
So if you were to run the Bassani's, you couldent use the cats? I want LT's but want cats on them. I don't want to smell like my car. My 65 had Long tube Hookers, with 2.5in tubing and flowmasters, and every time I got out of the car I smelt like exhaust. Plus its better for the environment, and if the Xpipe matches up to the Opimum length headers, I could swap to the Xpipe now for the sound, then upgrade to the LT's when they come out
Not neccesarily, remember we're talking about a product that doesn't exist yet, they may very well make one with cats to match up it up with.
Longtubes doesn't neccesarily mean no cats either. JDM makes a catted x-pipe for longtubes, another one I've seen is Dynatech which sells a complete system.

Don't forget you'll get better MPH the worse your 60ft all else being equal.
If we compare atmospheric conditions in Montreal And San Francisco last night at 6pm
Montreal: Temp 43F Dewpoint 34F Station Pressure 1010.14 Corrected Altitude -879.5ft
San Fran: Temp 62F Dewpoint 41F Station Pressure 1010.17 Corrected Altitude 469.2ft
Altitude Differential 1348.7ft
The way you stage also plays a big part in if you're going for a quicker ET or a better MPH.
You stage differently if you're going for MPH or ET.
My friend has an 05 also he has an Offroad Pro-Chamber, Magnapacks, Steeda CAI with SCT Custom Tune, 4.10 Gears, Steeda Underdrive Pulleys on M/T ET Streets. His car also outweighs mine by 150lbs. with a 13pc 3D Carbon Body Kit.
These are my friends' times
