I am getting my car dynod at Dyno Performance in Santee this weekend and I also have free pulls for JBA I was planning on doing both to see how different JBAs numbers actually are, since I know there is a discrepency, but the numbers I was talking about were done by Pauls Performance and had nothing to do with JBA. I will post them all and I know Surfn is getting his dynod by a third shop so he can post those as well. The only Dyno I have done so far was right after the intake at K&N on a dyno jet, which by the way is what JBA uses.

Unless JBA changed theirs in the last 3 months, they don't use a Dyno Jet... I believe they use an Australian-made unit from Dyno Dynamics: http://www.dyno.com.au/cdyno_index.htm. As I recall, it might be the Model 450 Single Axle Chassis Dyno, http://www.dyno.com.au/450sa.htm, or a Dynamax.

I have an 05 with C&L Intake 93 Octane Canned Predator tune and Steeda U/D Pulleys. My best ever time was 12.821 @ 111.273 on Drag Radials.
I installed my JBA Longtube Headers and Catted H-Pipe 2 weeks ago and I ran a 12.69 @ 109.170.
The lower mph is probably due to a better 60' time and the day I pulled the 111.273 there was a good tailwind.

@ 111 is pretty high for those mods, basically I dont believe that is correct. You should be putting down more power to make that mark.

what issue are you reading? I get every issue and never read such a thing, maybe you should read it again, you might have missed something, or maybe the magazine is just wrong.
I believe it was MM&FF, November 2005 issue. They ran a 3-part exhaust series from September (axle back), October (X-Pipe/Cat Back) & November (Shorty Headers). By my recollection, shorty header gains were very small.

Yes, Nov 05 issue... here is what they reported.

Base Pull with Bassani X-Pipe, Mufflers and Stock Headers: 298.9hp - 323.7tq

FRPP Shorties: 302.0hp - 325.0tq
MAC Shorties: 301.1hp - 325.0tq
Bassani Shorties: 301.8hp - 324.8tq
JBA Shorties: 303.8hp - 325.3tq

So, the gains were from 2.2hp to 4.9hp.

In addition, MM&FF stated: "We started off with a stock Mustang that made 289 and 313rwtq. By adding headers, an X-pipe, and an after-axle exhaust system, the AFM test mule picked up as much as 14rwhp and 12rwtq."

Bullsh*&.

what STOCK 05 Gt makes 289rwhp? furthermore....I don't trust a magazine like that. I read those articles...and I really don't believe those numbers. I will wait till I get my own car dyno'd.

Kevin. I would definitely think that you need to adjust the timing when you install new headers. This may not require a tune... but you want to get one to get the +/- 5 HP you'll get out of them. I am running the Bassani off-road x-pipe now, and since I have no testing here and don't technically need cats, I'll be getting the Bassani LT headers. ANyone know if these are out yet and where to get them?

But you'll swallow JBA's inflated numbers.

Doesn't matter what the numbers are anyway. When dynoing to the see effect of parts you're looking for the difference between pulls. It doesn't matter in the least what the numbers actually are. You're only looking for the difference.

Case in point. I have an Airaid CAI in my car.

Does it matter that the baseline was only 244 H.P.? Why was it so low? Dynoing in the middle of summer in Phoenix probably had a lot to do with it.

I find ALL manufacturers claims to be nothing short of a miracle. And I hear ya on Magazine articles.

Look at the people that have responded in this post with their own results. Wild Stray picked up...3 h.p. When he installed magnaflows high flow catted x-pipe their claim was 19 h.p. Wild Stray saw zilch if I recall.

Any tuner will tell you that the most you'll see out of any shorties is about 5-10 H.P.

You'll see for yourself soon enough, let us know what you get.

It doesn't make it a bad mod, it just is, what it is.

The number it starts with really isn't that important. I agree that it seems high but maybe that machine always reads high. What is important is the difference between the start and end number. I don't know why the magazine would lie in an unfavorable way for an advertiser. If anything, they would be more likely to exaggerate the gains. That is why I believe their numbers.

As for asking why a company would make a product if that was all you gained from it, the answer is pretty simple. Because people will buy the part anyway.

I am interested in what your results are because I'd love to have an excuse to install some headers to get more hp. Its just that right now, all the evidence points to them not being a very economical way to get more power, for me at least.

Those look awesome. I have never had LT headers, and don't know that much about them. How long are they in relation to the stock headers and how do they attach to the mid-pipe? I'm assuming they take the place of the legs of the midpipe that hold the O2 sensors, correct? Or are they not long?

I have the Bassani x-pipe (pictured below)... where will the LT headers attach to them, and how, if anyone knows?

Ian, your question is precisely why I am not going with the LT headers. as of right now, Bassani's xpipe will NOT fit up to LT headers. And...you eliminate the 02 sensors and cats. Living here in CA, if I get a fix it ticket...I need to be able to throw my cats back on easily.

plus....the difference in sound and Hp does not justify a $400 difference between shorties and LT's.

But to each his own.
