Ignition Advance Gauge Reading

Can anyone explain to me Aeroforce Interceptor Ignition Advance readings?

First of all on 2005-2009 Mustang, the OEM peak timing advance at wide open throttle in the upper RPM's is 24 to a maximum of 25 degrees total for 87 Octan Fuel. Most aftermarket performance tunes for the 2005+ Mustang GT vehicles deliver about 30 degrees of timing for a 91 octane tune. And that is what I should expect in my car as I have SCT 91 octane tune.

But the readings from the Aeroforce gauge I got is about 12 on idle and a lot more then 30 even 70-80 on WOT. What is wrong with that? Can anyone explain how to read it?

I spoke with Aeroforce but they just say that it is what PCM is saying and you got that on display if you use any other gauge you will get same readings.

I can't speak to WOT, but fwiw, on old carb/distributor vehicles it was pretty standard to set timing at 10-12deg BTDC. That's with the vacuum line plugged. Then with it reconnected, the vacuum would retard it a little more at idle.

I do agree with you that you should see no more than 29-30 degrees of total advance. I don't have an answer for you but I do have a set of Aeroforce gauges. Timing is not one of the parameters I watch but I will check it out over the weekend to see what my car runs. And I am running 93 octane tunes.

Yes please check it.
According Aeroforce instruction ‘Ignition Advance’ parameter is supported by Can gauge. I spoke with Todd from Aeroforce on their forum but shortly speaking it looks he do not know. His only answer was that reading is correct and you will get same reading from other brand gauge - that is what pcm saying.
Maybe the reading is not shown in degrees but in % of possible degree range. I asked him but he did not answer on that at all.
So maybe he does not know in what units this parameter is displayed?

Well I checked mine out this morning on the way to work and this is how mine reacts.

Idle - 12-15
Crusing @ 40 mph - 40-48 (flashes around)
WOT - Locks in at 30-31 and stays there.

I never saw anything higher than that 48 reading at cruise. Not sure it helps you or not.
