I think I have a major SCT problem
Last night I attempted to load a tune that I purchased from Doug, who was a pleasure to talk to and buy from. I followed the directions on the links to load the application software and was able to connect to my SCT X2. The file would load all the way to the end and say "download failed". I could also see the data transfering to the unit in its display. Since it was after Doug closed last night, I went to the SCT website under FAQ's. Browsing through there, I came across a segment about being locked. It gave 3 otpions: stat:stock, another one, and stat:aftermarket. The last one worried me. The stat:aftermarket option said that the unit had be VIN locked and I would have to return it to SCT to be unlocked for a fee. When I checked my unit under device options it said "stat:aftermarket". Now I have had this unit for 3 years and never had any issues with it until I started to load this program and I don't see why I should have to pay SCT to unlock a unit that I have already paid for once and was new out of the box when I bought it. I searched on the forums and found people saying that they had to pay 150.00 for this process. That is BS! I sent Doug an e-mail last night and I am going to call him when they open this morning. If anybody has any suggestions I sure could use them.

If you've only used it on 1 vehicle you should not have a problem. It's possible that the file Doug sent you has even just 1 number off and the SCT thinks it's for a different vehicle. I would see what Doug says. You shouldn't need to but you can try reloading the factory tune back on your car and then try downloading the file again from the computer to the SCT.
I have only heard this situation happening when someone sells their tuner. The new buyer needs the former owner's VIN number to unlock the tuner. What is interesting with your story is that VIN stands for Vehicle Indenfication Number each mustang or vehicle has its own VIN number. When I got mine from Brenspeed the first thing it did was record my vehicle information including the VIN number and processor code so it can only be used on my mustang. If I sold my tuner today to another mustang owner they would need a program from Brenspeed to erase my VIN and processor code information or my VIN number from me. Perhaps what they have sold you is a tuner that had been returned to them, put in a new package and sent out without the former owners vehicle information being erased. Stranger things have happened. My neighbour had a similar problem with a Diablo Tuner in that he had to go to the Diablo website to download the appropriate tune for his vehicle before he could use it. This is just my view on what might have happened. You should asked it the tuner they sent you has been used by someone else.

I talked with Doug when he opened this morning about the situation and he said that he would call SCT tech support on my behalf. I am going to get back in touch with him this evening after work and see what we can work out. Now I see why there is all this hype about him. He is supporting me on a piece of hardware that he didn't even sell me. He just sold me the tune. Most people would tell you that it was not their problem. If worse comes to worse and there is something wrong with my tuner, I only live 2 hours away and I can ride over this weekend and let him load it on the car in person. It's a little pricey with gas the way it is but I do love a good road trip. Gotta be back by 8:00 on Saturday though for the Georgia game. Probably not going to find that on TV in a bar in Alabama. GO DAWGS!!!!!!
UPDATE: The tuner had to be reformatted. Matt at SCT tech support did it remotely. The tune is loaded and the car now feels like a beast. Unfortunately when I down shift it cuts off. I am coing to call Doug again in the morning to see what he can do.
My son is Alex from Bama Chips...Dougs right hand man and he says this is probably in the tune and Doug should be able to easily fix it. If you have trouble getting hold of Doug PM me.
