Hurst Classic Short Throw

How difficult is the install on these? I don't know too much about cars other than how to change oil and tires, etc. Also, how does the shift boot work with it...or does it? Do you just remove it and leave whats under exposed?

It took me about an hour to install mine, but that was on a lift. You only need like 3 wrenches to put it in. You do reuse the shifter boot. They give you an adaptor piece that converts the top of the boot which is round to a oval shape that fits the handle. Looks really nice whens its done.

What all does installing a shifter entail? Is it just removing a few bolts and switching them out, or is there some involved alignment you need to do?

Insert the Hurst shifter through the interior almost upside down...rotated about 150 degrees clockwise, then rotate when it's all below the tunnel. A helper is nice to have, but not essential if you secure it up there with tape or bungees so you can get underneath and attach the bolts/nuts. Some lithium grease for the shifter/tranny link is recommended, and I used threadlocker on the specifies connections (in the instructions)....I use the "blue stuff"...242, I think. No heat required for removal.
Took me about 1.5 hours working alone on ramps.

I got "Rhino" ramps from Autozone. They are synthetic plastic stuff, support 12,000 lbs. and light and easy to store. About $60. Some lighter rated ones are cheaper. They also have a 17 degree rise which gives you JUST enough to get under the car, but also mean the front valence doesn't interfere with the ramp necessitating a "pre-ramp".
