Is the heat shield even necessary?
I have the C&L Racer air intake and can't stand the flimsy heat shield. Not only does it look a bit cheesy, but it vibrates a fair amount at high revs (4000 to 5000). My question to you is this, is it even necessary? If it is, I'm on the phone tomorrow and ordering their new and beefier unit. If not, it's coming out of the car.

Do not run your car without a heat shield. It helps to flow cooler air from outside the hot engine compartment into the filter, especially when the car is moving. You can do data logging with and w/o the shield to confirm this.

Thanks for the input. It's staying on the car. I sure wish that C&L would have designed a better heat shield. Rather flimsy if you ask me. Not only does it have to perform but it has to look good. In the Steeda and Roush systems, they appear to be much more stout.

Looks like a good opportunity for a company to make some decent heat shields and sell them. Metal like the steeda shield with an assortment rubber grommets to allow for different sized inlet tubes.
