guaging interest in an auto shifter
#22
I have been waiting with baited breath for a new shifter.
I would like a ratchet shifter like the Quicksilver that would be a drop in
and maintain the original dimensions of the stock but with style.
T handle is a must also.
When is B&M going to do a trans mod also?
I like the 5r55s but it is sluggish to shift and mushy when it does.
My biggest complaint is shifting when in OD. Like stomping to the floor.
OD to 4th then to 3rd. Could have a quick cup by the time it gets there.
The trans has a lot of potential but it just isnt being exploited.
With electronic control I would think it would be easy to mod.

I would love one! I was dissapointed when I found out that nobody made one for our cars after I purchased it.
How long do you expect development to last, before they become available to the public?
I am located in Los Angeles (west of Santa Monica) but I work all day 12+ hours and usually most weekends as well, sorry If you are still looking for a car, maybe we could work something out? How long would you expect to need the car?
Either way, I will definitely be in line to purchase one, count on that

A good tune will do wonders for the tranny in these cars. I highly recommend Doug's "AutoMagic" tune. I loved it!!!

Good lord, I would KILL for a B&M shifter in my Mustang. I have a Quicksilver in my 71 Chevelle and had one in my El Camino and loved it (despite being a bit clunky...) and would love one for my 05! How long would R&D be for this?

OMG, YES !!!!!!!!!!!
Finally an option of the auto. But like a few of the guys said, it's gotta match the interior and a classy leather boot (and maybe a black-leather clad grip) is a must - or at least an option. Just my thoughts (wishes actually).

We are located in Chatsworth Ca.

i'm in too. please no ratchet shifters though. they tend to jam up just when you don't want them too. a consol version of the prostick would be great! had one in my old fairmont and loved it!
or you could get real trick and give us something like hurst's old lightning rod so we can pull multiple levers one for each gear change
i know they didn't work all that well but they sure were cool to look at.
sorry i'm to far away to give you mine i would in a heartbeat though.

Thanks for all the reply's fellas. it does appear from looking at the car we do have enough room to build something for the car. We will meet on Wednesday of next week to discuss a timeframe for production and what design we could go with...I will keep everyone updated..Chris

Nice meeting you today Chris! Perhaps you could post a couple of designs next Wednesday that B&M is considering and we could vote on them? Like a poll of sorts.....

I'm with Ron. Ratchets are for nuts and bolts. Give me a good gate shifter and I'm in.

what about just a replacement gate mechanism like the one offered for the fox body mustangs? i okay with that too. as long as i can't shift from 1st to N like now i'd be happy. as a bracket racer i realize the most consistant way is to let the ecm do the work but i get bored during a run so shifting will give me something to do.

I have always thought of this style as a Ratchet type shifter, I guess that I was wrong. It is a gate style (gate plate duh).
