Gears For An Auto?

I want to have the gears changed in my 08 but am unsure of what ratio to go with. The car is a garage queen and I am not conscerned with mileage (even with todays fuel prices). I have read numerous threads and am undecided between 3.73's or 4.10's. The car just is driven to events, sunny weekend days, and will see the track maybe twice a year. I am leaning towards going with 4.10's but I have read that the autos don't perform with them as well as they do with the 3.73's. The car is all stock except for an 08 Bullitt intake and a Bama tune. I am not one to fear the gear. My last car an 03 Mach1 had 4.30's and were perfect for that car and mods. This will be the final mod for this car for many years. I would appreciate any input.

I have 3.73's, will do a second gear scratch and set you back in the seat. They get a little boggy around the 25 to 35 mph range untill it shifts, other that that I love them.

Just got my '07 GT/CS (Auto) back from dealer installed 4.10's (was going to go 3.73's) and it truly woke car up on low end. Much better out of the hole and 180 rpm's at 100 km not a big sacrafice.

If it was a daily driver I would go with the 3:73's. But since you say it is a garage queen I'd do the 4:10's.

My thought on the 4.10's is the loss of top end speed. JMHO.

I say 4.10s as the top speed is aero drag limited to about 167 if you have the 140MPH governor turned off. Plus sounds like the owner is the type who has earned the right to have a $30K toy and isn't worried about setting land speed records. Go for the grunt, you'll **** off C5 Vettes.

4.10's in my 07 GT automatic and I wouldn't have it any other way! I, too, had 4.30's in my 03 Mach 1. The S197 GT automatics perform awesome with 4.10's with no dead spots - just perfect gear spacing everywhere.

Yeah, but even w/ 4.10's theres a chance they'll still reel you in before the end of the 1/4. Our Vette runs 12.8's all day long (auto w/ 2.73's) just hitting the gas and holding on, no real skill required. It's really quite relaxing. No worries about launches, tire spin, etc.

That said, I'm gonna go w/ 3.73's in the 5-speed GT. I'm guessing 4.10's will overwhelm my crappy driving skills and I don't wanna get into suspension stuff.

Stock Mustang GT with 4.10 Gears
Quarter mile time 12.89 @ 103.8

2004 Corvette with LT headers, Intake, Tune
Quarter mile time 12.8

Need another reason to go 4.10?

You can really take a stock GT, throw $500 for 4.10 gears/install and hit 12.8? 5-speed or auto? Good driver or a squid like myself? Does it have to be that 'perfect' run or is it pretty easy/consistent? Stock tires or DR's? No suspension work?

Geez, just when I thought I knew what I wanted to do w/ gears.....

I consider myself a seasoned drag racer (26 years racing at the same track with cash & trophy winnings periodically). My 07 GT automatic coupe with just 4.10's, tune, and drag radials went consistent 13.30's @ 102 mph. Even with NHRA density altitude corrections, my car would be consistent 13.1's @ 104 mph. 12.8's would require some airflow mods, IMO, such as CAI, exhaust, etc.

However, 4.10's are still a very worthy mod for a GT automatic. So is a big converter and/or forced induction (which I've done since the 4.10's).

Would 4.10's be the good choice for an automatic daily driver? or would the 3.73's be it for a daily driver?

4.10's in my 07 GT automatic which is a true daily driver and no regrets.

Not to change the subject but how do you like the vortec? Ive heard it works well with the new NSR comp cams and I am considering a TC to with FI when I can get it done.
