gears for an 8.8 rear end

greetings all, I am going to change my rear end gear in my 2006 gt auto. What I am wondering are gears for all diffrent years will fit a 2006 as long as it is a 8.8 rear end. I see lots of 3.73 gears on ebay. for a great price. is this a good Idea buying one on ebay. any info would be great.

thanks again john

Gears

Any 8.8 gears will work. Do yourself a favor, get FRPP (FORD) gears. They are the best for your Mustang and least likely to whine. Also, get somebody that is good and experiensed to install them. There are a lot of tales of woe concerning gear changes. Don't forget to add a bottle of Ford friction modifier when putting in the lube.

^^^ What he said. The setup is VERY critical though. The contact pattern between the gears is crucial and it it's not exactly right you will get whine regardless of manufacturer. Some manufacturer's gears may have a SLIGHT tendancy to whine more than others and the numerically higher you go the tendancy to whine will increase slightly.
With all that said though as long as you take the time to make sure your contact pattern, backlash, ect are correct you will not have whine.
Also the Ford friction modifier is a very good idea. It will keep the clutch packs in your limited slip from chattering or grabbing when going around corners.

I second the FRPP and you might ask your dealer if they will honor your warranty if they install the gears? I had the TSB done on my clutch packs and they noticed the gears. They still honored the warranty ( I bought 3 cars from them) but when it came up to installing them, they said they would have and kept my warranty.

Would not hurt to ask

I love my 3.73's...some will argue to get 4.10's...but with the auto trans...it would be like having no first gear basically. Lidio from Alternative Auto told me to stick with 3.73's...he has an auto and is one of the two best people on this forum for making up tunes for the auto..Doug from bamachips is awesome also..Anyways..i feel you won't be dissappointed by them(gears). ..aslo..it does make a big difference in pick up on these cars.

I have to agree.. do not get Ebay motive gears, etc.

Let me work you up a package with Royal Purple fluid, FRPP gears and install kit... we can get you the best price around, and you'll rest assured that the extra maybe 40-50 dollars you paid for better gears will be FAR worth it down the road!!

Yes you can use an X cal or Diablosport Predator at change the calibration for your speedometer. It's quite easy.
