Fuel Filter Replacement - 40K

Gents

Anyone swap out their fuel filter yet, I am at 40K on my 05' GT. I have run premium fuel (93) from the get go.....How easy of a job is this? and should I have to replace it or is it too premature? I am having no driveability concerns....

Its cheap, pretty easy once you get under the car, and I would have suggested it to be changed twice by 40k.

Eh, it's cheap enough to do it every 20k, but service manual calls for once every 30k under the normal schedule. Just did mine at 30k. Guess it also depends how the gas is in the area. As mentioned, it's easy to do.

Hey Stoenr...My new brake pads haven't gotten here yet. Haven't forgotten about you though.

I have 53000k on the mustang and have changed out the fuel filter twice since ownership for me it was more of a preventative measure that is done with the oil change prior to storage for the winter.

Out here in Arid-zona they recommend we replace the fuel filter every 15k miles...

I have pulled my fuel filters off previous cars after 10k running amoco premium and could not blow threw the darn things. I do it once a year just for the sake of it. Keep in mind I have lift access, and motorcraft parts at cost tho.

I don't think you can't blow through them because they are dirty, probably just part of the design. I couldn't blow through the new one I installed last week, and I did try. Must be some sort of valve in there.

Gotta be careful of my wording here..
You should be able to blow thru a new one. Given the right direction

I recently changed mine for the first time with a Autozone brand and noticed a drop in mpg " approx 2-3 "? I have recently moved from California to Tennessee. Would of expected the mpg to be higher due to the cooler weather? My last fill up in Cali, I even noticed slightly lesser mpg's. Should I changed it out for another brand?

Thanks

I doubt the fuel filter is the cause of the dropped mpg's. Probably a different fuel formulation from Cali to Tennessee. Winter blend gas is notorious for lower mpg's, and Cali is probably selling summer blend gas year round.

I would change it before 20k personally. Its under the car covered by a long black plastic shield. under the drivers side, about where your but would be planted when sitting

Just from personal experience in the past. I have had filters that I could not blow through after 10k. Cheap insurance I guess.
