FRPP Hot Rod Cams Installed

I usually post on Mustang Forums, but I had to share this with you guys.
I just installed my Hot Rod Cams on Friday. It took about 5 1/2 hours, but was
worth it. It sounds pretty nasty with the long tubes and SLP's.

Awesome sound!

Sounds awesome man. Glad you made the video to share with everyone. I want a set of those so bad I can't stand myself. How difficult is the installation? I work on my car frequently, but I'm not sure I want to tackle a cam job. What exactly is involved and what if any additional parts did you have to buy? Thanks again for sharing!!!

What did you do about the tune for the cams? Who did it? Sounds awesome though.

Install not so bad, just take your time. You'll need two specific Rotunda tools a Valve Spring Compressor 303-1039 and a Timing Chain Wedge 303-1175 both are made by OTC. You will also need two new cam phaser sprocket bolts and a torque wrench that can by dialed down to 10 newton meters or 7.3 Lbs.-Ft. of torque. Here is a link to the Ford maual if you want a better idea of what exactly is involved in changing the cams.

It's running on a Brenspeed 93 oct tune right now but it definitely needs to be tuned. It seems to be running little rich right now.

I am not being negative here. These cams really sound great. But they are not like the late 60's or early 70's. Only us old ho's would know the difference!!
Scott
I am also an owner of a 69 cobra 428CJ. So I now a little about the old school muscle and yes there is a reason they named these cams Hot Rod Cams. The video you posted has poor audio I can't hardly hear the cam. About the only cams I've heard that IMO that sound better than these Hot Rod Cams would be a old school model with solid lifters. This thread was not started as a competition

Your correct. I did not post them as competition. You would only need to go start your 69' to hear the difference. That was my only point.

Now that we're back to having a love-fest again, has anybody actually dyno'd these cams yet? What does the torque curve look like? Flat? Peakey? Where does the power come in, and what's the effective redline?

wow that is just nasty and sexy...... is the engine stock and has any drivability went away...... or does this make the car any less dependable?

I gotta agree with you. Your car sounds awesome!! Very old school. Here's a clip of my old 1969 428CJ Mach I from back in 1992.
