FRPP Chrome 3v Cam Covers – Quality Concern

Does anyone have the “chrome” FRPP 3v cam covers? I received a set and feel the finish is sub-par. It’s not bad enough to make me want to return them (not a lot of options out there), but I am a little disappointed. The finish has a few small bubbles/dots like you get when a piece of dirt gets trapped under spray paint.

It’s not anything noticeable from any distance, but they are not perfect by any means and I’m a little surprised Ford let them out the door like this. I found another post on another forum from a gentleman with similar concerns (different vendor), and I’m wondering if this is normal. I tried to get pictures, but the flaws don't show up at all (not a bad thing I suppose)!

Tim

i just got some and really didnt notice any bubbles but i think the finish could be a bit better than what it is but still is nice . will look at them again later for any surface problems.

I know what you're talking about, and I think mine had some very minor flaws too.

But over all, they are great!

Coming from stock covers, I'll take the tiny dots.

Bill, I am starting to wonder if you have sponsors or you are stinkin rich. Either way, I'd be glad to take any parts that are deemed "not worthy" for your car.

Those covers are sweet!!!!!!

That's exactly my thinking. They may not be perfect, but I sure won't miss the mottled grey look of the lousy stock covers! Mine are slightly different then yours, they are the '08 version with fewer bolts (they stopped making the 05-06 version). It says they fit 05-06 also, still I would have preferred direct replacements.

On a side note, I'll be relying on your write up for my install this weekend, thanks in advance for the great write-up Bill!

Wait, did I just agree to that?

Yeah, I thought I had some dime, until my blower and new motor did a Category 5 to my bank acct.

Good luck with the install Tim. Just take your time and it'll turn out great.

Don't forget.. bolt torque is in INCH POUNDS! I had one guy attempt to follow my write-up, except he set his torque wrench to Ft Lbs. You guessed it, snapped the bolt.

Most of use do the motor changes with just a two man team: You and your buddy! TacoBill is probably up to a 6 man team: Bill, his buddy, camera guy, primary lighting, back up lighting and photo editor!

Ha Ha.. very funny guys.

The Taco is taking a back seat on the motor replacement project.

I'll just have a beer while my shop does all the work. LOL

I had this exact thing happen when i purchased a set the finish was terrible on them and it actually had paint runs on the underside where the gasket goes. Not sure how you get runs with powder coating buy they were there. Needless to say I sent mine back. Absolutely terrible!!

Do any of you want to sell your factory covers? I need a pair to send out for powdercoating so I don't have to park my car during the process.
