fluctuating idle, hesitation, stalling problems fixed
Hey guys, don't use the forum real often, but I just wanted to post the problems I had over the past 6 months or so with my car and what it took to fix them in case anyone else is having these same issues.
About 6 months ago I started experiencing weird idle fluctuation and the occasional stall. The car would act fine, and then randomly start bouncing between 400 and 900 rpms, and sometimes fell so low that the car died and I had to restart it. While the idle was fluctuating, throttle response was poor and I experienced a pretty noticeable hesitation when I began to give the car gas from a stop. I noticed it took a lot more throttle than usual to get it accelerating like normal. However, the problem only happened once every few weeks, and only lasted about 5 minutes at a time, so I wasn't real concerned. Well, over the course of the past 6 months, I had the same problems but they happened more and more often as time went on. Frequency kept increasing until about 2 weeks ago, the problem occured once every few times I drove the car and usually stalled a time or two each time it happened. Finally a week ago, the problems showed up again - but this time in force. The idle started bouncing around, but died very quickly. When I started the car again, fluctuated badly, then died. I started the car a 3rd time, the idle continued to fluctuate, and then the car went into failsafe mode. To make a long story short, the car died about 9 more times until finally when I restarted the car, the idle rose to about 1100 rpms and just stayed there. I immediately took the car to my local ford dealership, and it stayed in failsafe mode the whole way there.
Anyway, dealer diagnosed it as a faulty throttle body assembly. Replaced it under factory warranty and reset my PCM inside of an hour. Haven't had the problem a single time since. Again, just wanted to post this in hopes maybe somebody with the same problems will find it using the search feature!
