When is your Fail safe mode occuring? WOT or partial throttle, if it is partial throttle it is most likely due to the TPS system, the computer combats a possible throttle sticking open by doing the fail safe thing to keep you from getting killed. A TSB could help eliminate this, my issue was with a Zex wire tap into the TPS wire and when manipulated frequently will cause the FSM, when left alone it works fine.

That's the exact problem I've been struggling with for a month!!! ARGH!!! I sure hope the new TPS helps....

heck, my dealership is replacing my TPS tomorrow according to the TSB even though:

1) I have a Zex kit completely installed, including the wire tapped into the TPS wire!

2) Why do you have a helmet in the back seat?

3) Hmmmm... why do you have big white numbers on you windows?

LOL!
thats funny right there.

I've never had a car go into Fail-Safe Mode -- just kind of curious what exactly happens? Fuel Cut-Out?

My chime went off a couple times, CEL came on. Fail safe engine mode read on the IUP message center and only about 50% power from the engine.

Happened to me twice.

Fail Safe

My 05' went to FAIL SAFE MODE. Wife was stopped in traffic waiting for bridge to close. Duration of about 10 min. It was at idle in park. I don't recall seeing check engine light.
Turned off and restarted, message cleared and car ran normally. Dealer said there was a code stored. Can't remember what it was, although it was not one familiar to them. Said they talked to engineering and were told it was some kind of advisory message. They ( engineering ) wanted to know if the car had been modded. It has none. Actually it must be the only BONE STOCK mustang on the planet.
Anyone else run into this?

FYI you can use your X-cal 2 to pull the codes from your PCM.

If his car is bone stock, he probably doesn't have an x-cal 2...

But your guess is as good as mine.
He didn't say whether or not he had an X-cal 2, but I thought I'd just point out the X-Cal 2 can read DTC/MIL/SEL codes.

Hey guys I was driving my car Friday night and stopped at a resteraunt, came back out and I got that fail safe engine message. The car felt like it was driving at half power. I actually turned the car off when I dropped my buddy at his house and the light went off and the car drove normal. I have only driven it once more over the weekend since this happened and the car drove fine. I talked to my buddy who works at the ford place and dose my aftermarket stuff. He said let it ride for a couple of days and see if it happens again. He said that if it continues that the throttle body may have to be replaced. That also sucks b/c my original warranty ran out a week and a half ago and I will have to drop 100 bucks on the extended warranty.

I have another question, since this thread is older and most of you guys have rectified this problem. Did any of you have the problem happen once and nothing else happened? I have modified my car but it has been almost a year since I have done anything performance wise, and that was my gears. I do run a 93 custom tune on a SCT X-Cal 2. I may take her out tonight and put it to her to see what happens.

Just an update. I went out last night and drove hard for about an hour, stopping occasionally to turn the car off and sit. No failsafe engine mode appeared. I'll cross my fingers that nothing else happens. It just scares me a little b/c my wife's pregnant and I don't want to have to drive at half speed to the hospital in the middle of the night.

You have the xcal2 keep it in the glove box. If it ever happens again you can read the code then atleast you know the cause of it and can reset it.

I have an issue....I added a K & N cold air intake 2 years ago, no problems whatsoever. Then this year, after I took my car out of storage for the winter and I drove about 100 miles, my CEL came on. I opened the hood and found that the cold air intake attachment to the engine was off, so I reattached it and restarted the car. Still had the CEL and I didn't have a chance to drive through 2 highway cycles because it rained all week, so today, I was going to drive her to work and got about 1 mile from my house and the Fail safe message came on. I drove home and parked it. Any advice would be appreciated. I have no other engine mods
