I bought a new 2006 GT about three weeks ago and I know there is a "break-in" period. They tell you to not pubch it yet and don't drive it over 65 I think for the first 1000 miles. I have never owned a new car, so I'm new at this. Basically, I hear, especially when in drive and stopped, what I would decribe as a little noisy valves or lifters? Has anyone experienced this and is it something that is just part of the break-in and they just need to "seat"? Again, this is my first new car and maybe this is normal?

If its a fast ticking its the fuel injectors. You wont hurt the car by driving it relatively hard durring break in. The only thing to avoid is long same-rpm drives, its good to run the motor through its full range, the computer won't let you hurt it.

Yeah, Jam on it! I've read in various places that the real seating takes place in the first 20 miles when the honing is rubbed off and the cylinder creates a aseal. Theory is you can rev it high early on and get a better seating, less oil leak, and less overall wear and tear. Sooo, in keeping with this theory, I ran it between 2500 and 4500 on a regular basis from the day I got it. I may have reached 5500, but it's hard to remember when your lifting the front end off the pavement....

My car runs great, and I have a suspicion that I've avoided a lot of normal oil leakage by sealing the cylinders up earlier. We'll see when i get to 5000 miles...

Well, it seems to only make this noise at low idle. When the car is in park or neutral and the idle is a little bit higher, it is BARELY noticable. Only in drive and reverse can you hear it. The sound flows with the idle of the engine it seems.

I guess I did something wrong

I did a burnout at the dealership before I left, then I drove it like I stole it all the way home.

Bought my 06 in November 05, and it made a similiar noise. I drove it ~4000 miles, took it to dealer's service, and they performed a "Lash Adjuster" TSB. It doesn't "tick" anymore while idling, but it does make the same "ticking" sound when cold, but dissapears within a few minutes.

Where does it say not to "punch it and don't drive it over 65 I think for the first 1000 miles" in the manual??

Just vary your speed, thats it.

I have the same ticking noise. You can't really hear it in the car. With the hood closed you can only really hear it up front, but with the hood open it is quite noticeable. My family is full of gear heads and they all agreed that it sounded like the fuel injectors. My only problem is that it has seemed to get louder recently and I attempted to install and new CAI this weekend that doesn't require a tune and it threw the CEL. I tried the stock unit again and no CEL. Who knows? So, is there really a TSB for the ticking as noted above?

I have been dealing with this ticking sound for the longest time. It is constant - not just when the car is cold and definitely got louder.

Months back I was in my local dealership for TSBs and they said this was NOT related to the one TSB out there for engine noise because the sound is CONSTANT and never goes away - the one for the TSB was intermittant.

Is this 'lasher' one a new one? I would KILL to get rid of this #^%#@^% noise!!!!!
