it gets that crop duster sound at about 2700 rpms - 4500. My car sounds like that too but I think that is the resonance of these 2.5" pipes on these cars. I wonder what full 3" from the H-pipe back would sound like Don. It might change the tone of the exhaust. That is just another suggestion if you cant get rid of the "Trombone" sound. Trumpets are higher is sound so its more of a Trombone or Tuba sound. Just my 0.02$.
Before I consider a 3" exhaust (and all the cost/problems associated with it), I want to try the other mufflers. When I had the stock exhaust manifolds and cats, with the Loudmouths, I didn't have this sound. It was just plain awesome then. This started after the LTs were installed.

Yeah try those mufflers they should sound good. I want long tubes! I had them on my old mustang and I loved the performance difference. So would you recomend the Dynatech's??

Yes... the Dynatechs are made very well and fit great. They went in a whole lot easier than the stock stuff came out. It's a nice set up.

I have a set of "pre-owned" Magnaflows being shipped to me right now. I'll try them out and see how it sounds then.
I am in the same boat. Waiting to here how you like them. Otherwise, back to stock.

Here is an update on my "unacceptable" exhaust sound.

Tonight I slapped on a pair of Magnaflows in lieu of my Loudmouths. I have mixed emotions on the swap. On the positive side, they did take care of that annoying trumpeting and the "bap-bap-bap-bap-bap" is gone, so mission accomplished. I couldn't deal with that much longer. On the negative side, the car is sooooo quiet now, especially at idle and low rpms. It sounds OK at WOT. I'm sure it's louder than stock, but after running with LMs for several months and then getting to hear it with open headers... this is a dramatic change for me.

So for now, I'm going leave it with the Magnaflows until after the Kenne Bell gets installed. After that, I may watch for some other "pre-owned" axlebacks to test out.

Bottom line: I'm glad the mid-range trumpets are gone, but I miss the volume.

Exactly... but I'm not sure what I should try next. Something similar in design to the Magnaflows, but louder.

Which Borlas? The straight-through design ones I've seen will probably trumpet like the LMs do. Does Borla make a fiber packed muffler?

In fact they do.

The Ford Racing ones with an "A" at the end of the part number are a chambered muffler.

Hmmm... I wonder if they are louder than the Magnaflows??? Might be worth checking out.

Maybe someone out there has a set they are looking to sell? Or even trade for a set of Loudmouths?

Well the only one I've heard is the V6 one, it's chambered and to be honest sounds a lot like my straight through ones. It makes a V6 sound pretty flippin cool

Tony, when are your headers expected back from getting coated? Once you get them installed, I am going to find a way to sneak out of work the next time you guys go to the track. I really want to go with a set of long tubes, but do any of the companies that are selling them right now offer a H pipe setup rather than the X? Originally I was planning on going with the Dynatech's but the tubes seem to big for a street car that will not see a blower. I am planning on going the N/A route with ported heads and cams. Don you said that the low end torque came back when the cats were reinstalled?

Jon, they're getting back from coating either tomorrow, or Thursday. If you are looking for a bolt-on H with cats, then JBA has your setup

I just don't like the price... but oh well

The only time I felt like the torque was down, was when I was running it with the open headers. And once I put on all the exhaust piping from the header collectors back, the torque felt fine to me. It will still bust it loose on the 1-2 shift, and bark the 2-3 shift.

i just added the jba headers and hpipe and they have the trumpet sound to them. before the jba headers i had hookers with a prochamber and borla and that sounded sweet. loud, deep and with a nice rumble. sounded mean. with the jba headers and all , it sounds quiter than before. im thinking of adding the prochamber again to this setup

Don't forget about Bassani too. They're pretty close to the same design as the Magnaflow but louder.

Yeah sure, I'm alittle partial.........but that's why I bought them over the Magnaflow. They're deep too, even with an off-road H.
