Dropping a Big Block in a Stang??

How awesome would that be?? Instead of spending 10K on forging the internals and a bada$$ blower setup, just drop in this monster!!
http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateengine/bigblock.asp (I'm talking about the one on the left) John Bleakly Ford has it for $5,714. http://209.60.227.212/partssearch.as...ENGINES/BLOCKS

Not that I plan on doing it anytime soon, but that would be a fun project car.

Also, it is only about 200lbs heavier than the 4.6.

I was more specifically talking about a '05+, but that is a sweet ride Tillman!! I used to drag race a '75 with a 600cid, ran 8.70's 1/4 mile. I just can't believe the price on that 460 crate engine. Plus you know it was put together right and will have good parts made to work together if Ford is selling it as a crate engine.

I'm sure it would take some pretty extensive modification to fit it into the front of the S197, but for the HP/$ ratio, can't beat it!!

A 4.6 4v engine is larger then a boss 429 engine...so a normal bigblock would fit perfectly fine.

Your are correct about this Chris. When I blew up a 96 Cobra I seriously considered this option. Size wise it will fit...but nothing else will mate up to it in the tranny department. Ohh.. you also have to lose the computer and lots of other things in these car need that darn thing. So if your blown up and are ready to strip it down to purely make a race car out of her you'll be fine. But you'll never make a daily driver out of it.

Wait a second wasn't there a guy that already did this. I think it was posted up on the forums here. He put a 427 SOHC motor in his brand new 05+. It's a black car and the motor looked right at home in the engine bay. So it's been done.

Here found it...http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...light=427+SOHC

That was a dealer selling a 2006 GT (black) with a fully built FE block 427 side-oiler and it was trully the most wicked setup I have seen.
Price was near 80K if I remember right. The motor alone is probably 35K.

Uhh... If you have enough money...I guess anything is possible. I just DON'T happen to belong to that group.

If I was going to put that engine in a 'stang, I wouldn't worry about any computer crap. Cars 30 years ago didn't need computers, I think you could get away without them in this car too. Mechanical gauges, carburator w/choke, etc...

Well you could put a big block in an S197. The engine bay has more than enough room for it and the car has the structural integrity to handle it.
Say goodbye to any handling though. A fully assembled 460 will add a LOT of weight to the front end of the car. I would bet more than 200 lbs.
Just depends on what you want. A huge cubic inch motor like that is and always has been the most reliable way to make huge hp and toque numbers without going with a blower or a turbo.

According to the shipping weight of the engine listed above and the fully dressed weight listed for the 4.6, there is about 250lbs difference. If I understand shipping weight correctly, that is the weight of the packing materials as well as the cargo?? If that is the case, ~200lbs is about right.

That would shift the weight balance considerably, but these cars are already very well balanced, it would probably be comparable to a SN95 car's balance.

Sounds like a cool project to me. Either get a body in white if strictly a race car or a V6 gut it and drop in a Big Block, C4/C6 and a 9 inch and go SS/GT racing.
