Drag tires on stock 17x8s?

As I have aftermarket rims on my car, I was wondering what the best option was if I wanted to use my stock rims for drag tires. I found BFGs in 17 in sizes of either 225/45 or 275/40. Now, I know the narrower 225s will fit the rims but they're considerably smaller than the stock tire height. The 275s reccomend a 9" rim but are closer to stock height.

Any reccomendations?

I know several guys who are running 26x11.50-17 MT ET Streets (#3743) on the 17x8 bullitts without any problems. They are equivalent in size to a 275/40-17.

I just mounted Mickey Thompson 275/40/17 on the stock upgraded rims. I am heading to the track tomorrow night to test them out.

Don, did they have to screw the ET Streets to the rim? I haven't had an issue with my M/T radials, but i've heard about slippage with the true slicks.

I don't think so. Also, keep in mind that the ET Streets aren't a true slick. The ET Street rubber compound is not nearly as soft as the slicks, and is actually harder than the drag radials, too.

I have the ET streets on the stock rims and they work awesome, I have the 3743 biasply ones. You don't need screws. Use them at the track only and you'll be fine.

I've run them on both the bullitt and upgraded machined wheels

Yep, I'll be going with the 3743s. I need to find some 17" stockers though. What about a front setup? What size tire/wheel?

My performance problems were all related to my alternator. My car didn't have enough spark left at the top end. Now that that's fixed the car runs awesome. Feels way faster anyway. My problem is it rained for the entire month of May and June on Wednesday and Friday nights when I go to the track. Nights when it wasn't raining I had other stuff going on. Last wednesday would hav ebeen awesome but I went to the red sox game instead. Now it's hot and humid (85% humidity) and it's not even worth going now. I'm not going to beat on my car on a .3-.5 sec weather handicap. When the humidity goes away I'm going to dyno tune it and go back. Supposed to thunderstorm for the next week so it wont be any time soon unfortunately.
