Thumbs down Don't ever call (586) 468-1356

OK here's my story. I bought a set of Ford Racing 3:73 gears and the installer can't seem to get a pattern. They howl like a banshe on decel so he calls the (586) 468-1356 Ford tech line number for some assistance. They ask him if my car has any suspension mods. He told them that I have lower control arms with spherical bushings, Watt's link, sway bars, aftermarket shocks and springs, 1 piece driveshaft and torque limiters. The tech guy says, " what does he expect with all those mods he is going to get lots of vibration. We make a kit that attaches to the axle that dampens the NVH.

Typical response from someone who clearly wants to put the blame on someone else. Quality Job One. I think not!

That sucks. Ford is obviously wrong. Hate to say it, but maybe find a different installer.

I wonder if its those 5 pound slugs that were bolted to my axle?

Leo had those on his axle. They interfered with his relo bracket install, so we tossed them.

Hey Rich,
While the Ford tech guy needs to be shot I have to ask if the 3:55's you took out made any nosie? If not it seems to be the new install and not the suspension mods.

What did your installer expect, giving hotline that info? Find another installer, or have him try a different set.
There are things you don't tell hotline to get the answers you want. He needs to tell them about the rear-end he just installed, and ignore the suspension regardless if they asked him about it.
If he needs tips to install a rearend from hotline, i don't know about that guy.

When I had sudden bad whine with my 3.73s, the dealer service manager called Ford Racing and they said the same thing, blaming my watts link. Must have been the same tech guy.

Anyway, both the service manager and me knew that was BS. Service manager said the gears were installed right on and suggested a new bearing kit. When installing that, the tech discovered that the pinion bearing race had started to disintegrate, even though the bearing was making contact correctly. Now, the rear end is back to normal, no thanks to FRPP.
