Differences between SF and Xcal2

Hello

I bought a 9415-ST
Steeda XCalibrator 2 for '05-'06 GT w/Steeda Cold Air

and I'm not sure my shop sold me the right tuner. I was told that preprogrammed tuners are an Strategic Flash devices and no Xcalibrators2. So they have a different sticker in front with "Strategic Flash Device". Is that right? What are differences?

What should this tuner with steeda tune look like in front? Should there be letters from a xcalibrator 2 or from a strategic flash device?

Thanks.

Florian

The 9415A and 9415B are the Strategy Flash models. They come with precanned tunes that work great on stock vehicles. They fit an array of Fords from F150s to Mustangs to Focus'. They are not meant for vehicles with alot of mods.

The XCalibrator2 is a custom device that an SCT dealer puts custom programs into for YOUR SPECIFIC VEHICLE. They program the XCal2 to whatever octane level fuel you have, if you have a cold air intake, gears, etc. They sold you the right one.

They should have taken your PCM code, and asked if you had any other modifications right?

Can I use specific tunes in a 9415? For example i got a stock tune from steeda for their cai...erverything is ok...then I install a magnaflow exhaust and 4.10 gears later...can I now buy somewhere a new tune or customize my own with a 9415?

If you're just installing gears and catback, simply go back into the programmer and change the gears to 4.10's that way. The catback shouldn't need any tune adjusting, assuming you didnt do long tube headers, etc.

Call me, I'll walk you through it if neccessary.

Okay, what Steeda might be doing is buying the Strategy Flash and clearing them out and retuning, because they're less expensive than an XCal2 for dealers. I would call Steeda to double check.

Modifications needing custom tune: CAI, MAF, Injectors, Supercharger, LT Headers, Turbo, etc.

Stuff that wont affect your tune, axle back, or catback, underdrive pulleys, etc. Just let me know when you're going to put something on and I'll let you know if you need a tune for it or not. You'll get familiarized with it very quickly!

What if I have a 9415 SF model and want to add a custom tune from a shop? How is this done? I've read about changing the 9415 to a 9400, but is that the only way or can I have the canned tunes AND the custom tunes on the same unit?

i think you need to retune the entire unit to do that.

You would have to go to a local SCT Adv III dealer, and they can format the box so that it reads as an XCal2, and would have room for 3 custom tuning files.

I see, thank you! I was hoping I could do it all by myself if I got e-mailed the tunes, but I guess not.

I don't know if you have messed around over at www.sctflash.com or not. They have a forum and downloads and all kind of stuff for your SCT tuner. I had to get an update for the LiveLoad software to load tunes from email/computer onto my SCT Xcal2. You might get your questions answered there too.
