custom H-pipe with cutouts?
Hello, i am currently thinking about buying a pypes offroad H. but due to trumpets, and excessive noise with the SLP, i am debating about pulling off my H-pipe, mocking up the new pypes on the weld table at work, cut the pipe and install the original cats, so the sound is not rediculous. But thanks to Don , i want cutouts installed before the cats so i have open headers, err manifolds on demand. now, has anyone ran the car with the stock manifolds with open pipes, and does it sound good, or not? I do not plan on getting headers, but would like the open header sound. is this possibe? i looked under they car, and believe their should be enough room for the cutouts, right off of the manifold and then the cats, then the SLP.
thank you
kenneth

LOL... You need to know the secret handshake.
Anyway, here is how I responded on "the other board":
Also, for those interested in how my cutouts were done, see post #127 here: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...t=44844&page=7
Oh, and the switch for the cutouts is on my dash. All hell breaks loose with a press of this little switch.

Just to be sure, are you asking about putting cutouts between the stock manifold and stock cats? It could probably be done, but it would be very, very tight. Not to mention you'd be dumping extremely hot exhaust gases very close to other items in the lower engine bay. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea, regardless of the sound quality.
p.s., I did listen to the car once with stock manifolds, stock cats, and no mufflers at all. Frankly, it was loud, but didn't sound all that great. Once I put the LMs on, it sounded much, much better.

Yep... back on the road last week and all is well. I'm headed to the track tomorrow and Saturday for the first time since February!! I posted an update here: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...t=44844&page=9
There is even a little video of the open cutouts there.

How is the sound with the cut-outs open in person. People keep telling me that a 4.6 sounds like crap with them open. I have a cutout on my 94 Z28 and I love the sound, and I think it'd be a nice addition for my ProCharged 4.6.

Since you're in SoCal, maybe we can meet someday and you can hear them yourself.

I'm down for meeting up sometime. My car's laid up at the moment thanks to some broad in a Lancer running a red light and nailing my left front fender and wheel. Should be out by the end of the month again though. Looking to do a few more mods before taking the car back to SEMA.
