Charge Motion Plates
#21
David, I have been drooling over those plates for some time now. I have been waiting for dyno numbers to prove their worth on a naturally aspirated car. I am going to have to find a way to work some more OT to afford them now.
BTW, I ordered my line locks today as well as some MT ET Street slicks and I am going to mount them on some factory FRPP Bullitt wheels for my next drag strip run, lookin for 11's.

Anyway, if I run into problems or not, I'll post my situation. I ordered them this morning.

Paul - too funny just couldn't stand not having any more mods to do...I know the feeling and will probably end up eventually getting them too
[/quote]
What's worse is now I am eyeing the high flow cats & x- pipe.
I would rather be dealing in a state of confusion than the state of California right now. That will be my defense!

Seriously, it is very addicting. I swear I've said over and over, "Okay, this is the last mod for awhile."....yeah, for about a week or two. I'm glad that I have all performance mods available done. Now I can save up for bottom end and for the restoration of my 1969. Burning a hole in my pocket!

I know what you mean..............I made it for a couple months......then fell off the wagon.................. Now I am trying to mod the wagon.
There's gotta be help somewhere!

My wife got home today and approached me with a question..."Someone told me they liked my tail lights while I was at a stop like. What the heck are they talking about." I then took her outside and showed her the sequentials working. She said, "oh, cool. Why didn't you tell me?" I actually forgot to tell her. I was surprised when she asked me if the sequence when you step on the brakes.

Had lots of problems with first wife............never could figure out where I was.
I was a kid and had a drag strip (Lions) 30 minutes South of me and another 30 minutes North of me. If one was closed down for some reason, I went to the other one. I was either gone or had the engine torn down.
I am all grown up now though!

Hopefully I'll get mine installed this weekend and I can give you guys some feedback. Personally if I had a standard with any kind of gear in it over stock I would do them. If there is a loss in low speed you will never notice it with the added gear.
Thanks Mike

Well I actually was going to put my pulleys on tonight, but I don't have the correct puller so I put the plates on. Although it will take about a week to give a good review, I thought I'd go ahead and share my first impressions.
Lets talk install first. This is very easy and could be done in under a hour if you were in a hurry and knew what to do up front. One step I bypassed was disconnecting the fuel rail. Since the rail keeps the injectors attached to it you can basically unplug the electrical connection and and pull the rails/injectors up out of their boss together. Then simply flip it over (passenger side to driver side) and lay them on a towel. This will make it faster and you will not loose any gas or have to worry about any getting on your car. Once you have the intake out, it's self explanatory. You have to get the plates on the correct side to mount back in the car and you need to pay close attention to the alignment when you put the plates on the intake. Besides the runners matching up look at the bolt holes and make sure they will align. There is no torque spec given, but they have steel inserts installed in the intake and it SHOULD stop you from over tightening. It is best to install the middle bolts first in case you drop one in the valley. Also I used the same tightening sequence I've use for years with a manifold and that is center bolts first, go to the next set forward( towards front of car), go top the next set backwards (first set towards the firewall after center), then back to the next set forward of the front set bolts, and then back again. (probably confused some there) After you get them all tight just go back over them as usually the center bolts will be loose now. Do not over tighten them!!
Now my initial drive was pretty good. The car seemed to respond a little quicker in the midrange when you went to WOT. It also seemed to breath a little better up top, but by know means is this night and day. They are subtle changes and are basically part of the hole package, not a first modification. You probably get a 10-15 hp gain at the flywheel, which is a good gain if nothing is lost. That should get you a tenth in the 1/4 as a good rule of thumb. I noticed no big losses etc.. It seemed like the throttle might not have the same sensitivity when taking of nromal, but I had on flip flops instead of my normal shoes. I'm not ready to make that comment yet. The best review will take about a week. That will give the computer time to readjust and I'll be able to report gas mileage. It seems no one has checked it yet. Alternative had no one report back with any results on mileage so I'll be the first to give them some results on that.
All in all, it's a easy mod, and if nothing changes from tonight I'll be satisfied with my investment. My car is a good canidate, auto with stock gears, C&L, and a tune. So if my car passes with flying colors then we should all be safe. All give you guys more info as I go.
Thanks Mike

No problem. I'll get you guys a good review in a few days once I get a chance to get some seat time. Sometimes the ol' 15 minute test drive isn't always how things turn out, if you know what I mean.
Thanks Mike

Mike - thanks for the write up and looking forward to hearing more about your results!! One question: is there a computer feedback system connected to the stock plates (imagine it must have some way to sense what position they are in)and with them removed would you be tripping a CEL?
While we're at it - what exactly is the stock system there for - smog....better low end torque...or what? Is this a true variable intake system?
I ask because on an 2002 Honda VFR (cycle) I used to have it had the VTEC or a 2nd set of valves per cylinder that don't kick in until the engine is about 7Krpms....well Honda's PR dept. claims its for better low end torque, etc. - but what it really came down too is that it was only for smog reasons - much added complexity, maintenance, etc - so Honda could claim that there '02 VFR already meets 2008 Cali CARB requirements!!
I'd like to know if this is the same with our variable intake system
