Changing the transaxle fluid ?

Changing the transaxle fluid ?
Hey everyone,
OK so I have to change the engine oil on my '06 GT and was planning to do as well the transmission oil.
But I asked my mechanic about the rear transaxle oil and he told me that I don't need to change it unless it's leaking.
Do you guys know anything about that ? We really don't need to change the fluid for the transaxle ? Is it good for the car lifetime ?
thanks a lot to everyone

I typically don't change the oil in the differential until 100k or so.
btw - you do not have a transaxle in a Mustang GT. You have an engine mated with the transmission, then a rear axle differential (Traction-Lok) connected with a drive shaft.
Whereas most mid engine cars have an engine mated with a transaxle - where the transmission and differential are an integrated unit. Notice how the axle (half-shafts) mounts are located at the transmission - no drive shaft needed.
