Just to confuse everyone, the "shop manual" specifies a 6.5 quart capacity. See my "dipstick" thread for more information: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...7&postcount=20

Ah that's a good idea.

tdbrown75, in that thread you state that adding 6 is the safest to do? I mean, when you buy oil from Brenspeed, they only give 6 quarts to you.

As you have discovered, although the manual says 6 quarts, it does not necessarily top off the oil level completely. That's because the engine with Motorcraft filter actually holds 6.5 quarts. But since you can't drain ALL of the oil out, 6 quarts gets it in the safe range.

There has to be some variance depending on how much is left in the engine during a change, so 6 quarts may or may not necessarily get you precisely full and some may choose to top off some. The important thing to remember is that so long as the level reads between the two holes on the dipstick its fine.

My 07 GT reads exactly FULL with 6 quarts of oil and a new FL-820-S. It is the first Ford/car that I've seen that reads FULL with the specified engine oil fill capacity. Usually it always reads about 0.5 qt low.
