i dont think dan is an a$$ at all. he is vert blunt and to the point and usually has good information to share. he shared an opinion and we all have the right to one. he didnt insult the man or his choice to install cams. he simply stated that he was not impressed HIMSELF.

I am still amazed how some people get upset about things posted on the internet.

FWIW, I think you're a **** Dan.

Actually NO. He transcends BLUNT. When he wrote:"
i love it, everybody will finally realize that there arent such huge gains unless coupled with all the right stuff like a good tune.

-Dan"

He was enjoying...celebrating that someone had spent well over a grand and had gotten bupkiss out of it. Perhaps a person with a modicum of tact would have written pretty much the same thing but instead of, "I LOVE IT!" It could have begun, "Really sorry about your luck but maybe now everybody will realize...."

I'm sure Dan's probably a great guy. But let's not ignore the fact that this isn't the first, second or third time he's been noted to be less than sensative. And when you're repeatedly and systematically insensative to others feelings, that's pretty much the definition of being an ****. Perhaps it's just an online thing.

hehe, yea 100HP from a cam upgrade alone would have to be a seriously aggressive cam.

I think with the more mild cams, the idea isn't making much more power, but it's how it shifts and broadens the power "under the curve" so to speak. Your peak power may have gone up a few clicks, but compair the graphs and you'll probably find that you gaind a fair amount of power underneith the peek point. Also might shift the power band up or down the RPM scale.

I may be old fassion, but $700 for cams seems pretty expensive already! I can remember getting a cam for my old camaro, I got cam/lifter set for less than $90, idle sounded wicked when it was all put back together too! God bless old pushrod motors

I remember those old days too, but now I think with inflation and overhead valve technology, the price is about $1600 for 2 cams, retainers, and springs. Pretty pricy, especially since you can no longer turn a few screws on the carb to make the engine run, thus forcing more money into a custom tune. Oh well, it would sound better and cost much less than my home stereo.

i believe they say you need valve springs and retainers even at stage 1.

The problems with buying cams for these cars is for one, you need two cams for one motor now.

and there is a lot more dsesign work that goes into cams now because of the variable cam timing, and the extra stuff like the pawls for the position sensor and what not

a cam for my 99 vw is like $110.00

Nah, I always liked you. You're a hard a** sometimes. But you know your sh**!

Some of these guys are just too sensitive. I say keep it up. Just watch out for flying bricks......

Dan is actually a really smart guy. Try to see through his "harshness" and you'll all realize that he's a great resource!

Thanks Dan for giving us all your help!

I disagree (Adrenalin - I promise this is it. This guy irritates the he** out of me.)

First, the thread starter was obviously excited about what he had just had done to his car. One thing that used to make this board stand out from others was that every post did not result in an instant flaming or bashing of some sort. Instead of simply stating, glad you like it, not my cup-o-tea, Dan-O proceeds to revell in the fact that the cam didn't produce 100 hp gains and is glad the first poster spent whatever to get a mod that resulted in less gains...

First, it's a GD cam, it shouldnt have resulted in 100hp.

Good information is always useful, but I can find information on any website. A large part of the appeal of this site used to be the people. Unfortunately it is becoming more and more abusive and hostile, especially for people who spend parts of their lives doing things (GASP) other that surfing the net.

I spend my entire day arguing with people and battling over this or that, it is my job to fight and deal with people who are convinced they are absolutely correct no matter what...I don't want to deal with that when I am trying to relax, especially when people bash some kid who is obviously excited about what he just did...

There is a certain attractiveness to a practical and realistic outlook or perspective in life, but that is quite different from the "I am just blunt" and "I tell it like it be" BS that so many people seem to be proud of...

I've never met Dan-O, but in my experience, the people who are usually quick to tell you that are proud to be blunt often simply aren't smart enough to think of a better way to make their point that is not abrasive, attacking or condescending.

There should be a certain level of civility to be strived for in the day to day communications with other persons who have caused you no harm. Popping off with cheap shots every chance you get is not the goal, and should not be a satisfactory status quo.

but what do I know, I'm just some dude at a keyboard...

Flame away...
