Unhappy C&L Issue?? I'm Lost....

Well I bought a used C&L intake off ebay for $200 to replace my K&N Aircharger. Installed the new intake, updated my tunes from Doug. The car runs amazing! Here is the two problems I ran into that I need help on.

I uploaded the tunes and the car started acting real funny. It was a rough and low idle. It almost sounded like it wanted to kick off. So I cranked the car off, made sure all the connections were on (especially the PVC vaccuum hose) everything is on there nice and tight. ok, crank the car on again, does it again! So I switch to the torque tune, *note that i was uploading the performance tune at the time*, upload the torque tune. It does it again!!! I'm thinkin maybe the idle was set to a low setting. So i crank the idle to 820 for safe keeping. ok, upload the tune again, it does it again!! At this point I'm getting worried, because I'm also getting a very very rich smell of gas coming from my tailpipes and have not gotten an CEL yet. In the mean time i'm trying to contact the guys that I know with C&L intakes and also Doug. No response back from Doug, which I understand he's a busy busy guy. But also no response from my friends. so I crank the car on one last time, and guess what, it does it again! So then I reve the car several time, and its sucking the air in, and after several revs, the idle goes to NORMAL!!! what the hell was that all about?? so i took it for a 25 min spin around town, and the car is performing awesome!! Stop at a pub with some buddies for an hour. go to leave, crank the car again, and guess what, get the low rough idle again!!! So i rev the car a few times again, and wa-la, the car goes back to normal idle! what can the problem be here?? someone mentioned that the C&L has an idle problem?? please chime in.!

Also, in the mean time, in this big big issue that i was having, I flashed the car back to stock, and reset the computer (unplug the battery for 20 min and then plugged it back in) thinking that maybe this would clear the issue since ive been running the K&N and maybe the car is not used to the big C&L, then I uploaded the tuner and had the same issues as before. now what i noticed is that my MTE (miles to empty) feature is at 0!! and I still have a 1/4 tank!! and it just keeps coming up low fuel 0 miles every 5 min and it gets annoying with the beeping and what not. now I'm really lost. I hope I didnt screw up my ECU.

Anyone, please help????

I have had no issues whatsoever with the C&L in my car

-Is the engine throwing any codes?
-Maybe the MAF is coated with oil or something?

No the engine has not thrown a code.

and I checked the MAF, nothing wrong with that either.

I'm just really worried right now. I just want to resolve these two issues so i can stop worrying.

Mav, did you let the car relearn the fuel trim after flashing between tunes? LIke let it idle until operating temp, idle for 1 min more, idle 1 min more with A/C on max? I noticed if I rushed it when flashing the car and didnt let it relearn idle trim the car nearly stalled every time I stopped in it or it just idled.

As for the miles to empty thing... I would pull that battery cable again and let it sit for at least 45 mins. Then let the car learn the idle trim before driving it.

well to stop worrying, put back on stock intake or k&n and put back in stock tune. If it runs great, nothing to worry about. If it does run great, contact doug as soon as he can get back to you, and discuss it. Make sure that the car still runs normal with stock set up. good luck but my best advice. You dont want to keep running it that way. So try to get it running properly first then talk to those that know a little more about the c&l etc. Have you checked all around the intake real closely to make sure that there is not a hairline crack or something. If so vacuum could be going up and down. If that is the case you can diagnose that with a small propane tank, valve and tube. I used it to detect vacuum leaks. You slightly point the device at areas you think could be leaking and turn the propane on so if there is a crack you will notice the idle run great all of a sudden because it is richening it up. Anyway just my thoughts, good luck

ok i think i will unplug the battery again and let sit for a while let it relearn the trim and not. ill have to look in the manual to see what the procedure is and what not, for the idle at 1 min, then 1idle with the a/c on and everything and see how it goes. i'll keep you guys updated when i get home 2nite

i will also pull the intake arm off and inspect it and see if i noice any sort of cracks and what not.
